Edge SIM debuts at MWC 2024 | IoT Now News & Reports

Date:

Console Connect is set to influence the landscape of secure IoT and cloud connectivity at the 2024 Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona with Edge SIM.

By using advancements in software-defined networking (SDN), Edge SIM provides the world’s first mobile connectivity solution that bypasses the public internet and instead routes traffic via an automated, secure private network.

Edge SIM is one of the only solutions of its kind to be fully multi-cloud enabled, allowing businesses to self-provision direct connections between their devices and over 10 cloud platforms worldwide.

As IoT devices and networks handle more sensitive and mission-critical data, Edge SIM addresses the need for more secure access to the cloud – combining the flexibility and ubiquitous coverage of mobile networks with the enhanced security and performance of Console Connect.

The solution is a strong fit for IoT applications such as asset management, logistics, connected cars, payment networks and POS devices, live broadcasting, healthcare solutions and security systems.

“We are excited to bring our innovative Edge SIM solution to MWC 2024, giving delegates a firsthand look at an end-to-end mobile connectivity solution that bypasses the public internet and can be fully orchestrated, customised and controlled by a leading Network-as-a-Service platform,” said Emmanuel Bain, a SVP of mobility at Console Connect. “With coverage across over 180 countries worldwide, Edge SIM provides greater visibility, security and control over global IoT assets and gives businesses a direct path between their connected devices and the cloud.”

Console Connect will be joined on Stand 2E21 by its cloud ecosystem partner Vultr.

Console Connect entered into a partnership with Vultr in 2023, and the NaaS platform today offers extensive reach to 8 Vultr cloud data centre locations worldwide.

Using Edge SIM, businesses can integrate their connected devices with any of these Vultr cloud locations to access Vultr cloud compute, Cloud GPU, Bare Metal and cloud storage solutions.

“At Vultr, our customers leverage our global reach across 32 regions to deliver high-performance cloud infrastructure and cloud GPUs to accelerate AI-powered cloud-native applications,” said Kevin Cochrane, a CMO of Vultr. “Our customers have long relied on Console Connect to deliver unrivalled performance across our cloud data centre locations around the globe. Today, we are thrilled to add global connectivity support for private 5G connections by integrating Edge SIM into the Vultr platform.”

Additional information about Edge SIM:

  • Internet backhauling is common practice for most IoT connectivity solutions, exposing connected devices to the public internet when traffic is passed from the mobile operator to back-end applications and hardware.
  • Edge SIM ensures mobile traffic is not exposed to the public internet by passing traffic from a mobile gateway directly to a virtual private Layer 3 network, which businesses can provision and control in real-time through the Console Connect management portal.
  • Edge SIM offers direct connections to AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, Oracle Cloud, IBM Cloud, Alibaba Cloud, Vultr, OVHcloud, Stackpath and more. Businesses can manage both their mobile connectivity and cloud connectivity payments via the Console Connect platform.
  • Edge SIM is an extension of Console Connect’s CloudRouter solution. With the addition of a Console Connect Access Port, businesses can also link their devices to enterprise locations and network environments, including data centres, Wide Area Networks (WAN) and last-mile access.

Console Connect will be holding daily demonstrations of Edge SIM throughout MWC 2024 at Stand 2E21 in Hall 2 and also offering selected businesses exclusive Proof of Concept trials of the solution.
