Electronic Arts has stated that the upcoming Skate game won’t be making an appearance in its upcoming EA Play Live event. This is a bit of a letdown as nothing much has been seen of the game since it was revealed last year, and even then we didn’t see anything. EA, however, has also assured users that the game is still being worked on, and proved it by playing some behind the scenes footage.
EA and the Skate developers revealed this news over the weekend via a post on the Skate Twitter. The announcement reads, “Now, we know many of you were hoping to see more from us this week, but we’re not ready for prime time just yet and we won’t be part of the EA Play Live show this Thursday. It’s still early and we’re committed to doing this thing right which means it’s going to take some time.
Skate 4 was announced over a year ago at EA Access, EA’s E3-adjacent event. Not much was revealed at the event other than the game’s existence, which came as a welcome surprise to fans as it had been ten years since Skate 3 was released. To reassure fans that the game is still in production, the Skate YouTube channel released a “teaser” that was mostly series creators Cuz Parry and Deran Chung talking about how the game is still early and everyone’s still working on it. We did get a little behind-the-scenes footage, which is neat.
Skate joins the ranks of Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and Star Wars on the list of “games that are not appearing at EA Play Live. EA has made it fairly clear that the only things users should expect to see at the event are Battlefield 2042, possibly EA Sports titles, and maybe a little Apex Legends. None of its other big franchises are ready for primetime yet, but Battlefield 2042 will likely be the company’s tentpole release of the year.
