Dying Light 2: Do You Need to Have Played The First Dying Light?

Date:

Dying Light 2

If you’re contemplating jumping into Techland’s new open world adventure Dying Light 2, you might be wondering if you’ll need to have played the first Dying Light before.

After all, both games are set in the same universe: a world ravaged by a deadly virus which has turned much of the population into nothing more than zombies. As a result, the humans that remain live in fear of darkness in a world that’s barely standing. But do you need to have played Dying Light to understand or enjoy Dying Light 2?

The answer is, thankfully, no. If you’re jumping into Dying Light 2 as a brand new player, you’ll quickly get up to speed on what’s happened in the world. Dying Light 2 also features a brand new protagonist in a brand new location, so it’s essentially its own story.

Of course, if you have played the first game, then you’ll already have an insight into the game’s world. You’ll have a deeper understanding of the virus and how it has affected everything around you. There are also some mentions of Harran – the setting of the first Dying Light – which you’ll understand more if you’ve played.

But ultimately, it doesn’t matter. Dying Light 2 is its own game, with its own story, characters and setting. So if you’re new to the series you can jump straight in.
