Cedric Tillman 2023 NFL Draft Profile

Date:

The 2023 NFL Draft will be a great event for teams to start building for their future. Here is the Cedric Tillman 2023 NFL Draft Profile.

Position: Wide Receiver

School: Tennessee

Size: 6-foot-3, 213 pounds

Class: Redshirt Senior

2022 Stats: 37 receptions, 417 receiving yards, 3 touchdown receptions, 11.3 yards per reception

Tillman spent five seasons at Tennessee and developed his game over that time. He is now in the 2023 NFL Draft.

As a three-star recruit out of Nevada, Tillman signed with Tennessee in the class of 2018. He had one catch for -3 yards in 2018. In 2019, he had four catches for 60 yards and a touchdown. He built on that in 2020 with three catches for 67 yards and a touchdown. In 2021, Tillman stepped into the starting lineup and delivered with 64 receptions for 1,081 yards and 12 touchdowns. His play helped the Volunteers go 7-6. His 2022 season was derailed by injuries, but he still registered 37 receptions for 417 yards and three touchdowns. Tennessee had a great season, going 11-2 with a win in the Orange Bowl.

After opting out of the Orange Bowl, Tillman entered the 2023 NFL Draft. He is projected to be a day-two pick.

Cedric Tillman Strengths

Tillman has great size for a wide receiver at 6-foot-3 and 213 pounds. He also has long arms that measured in at 32 3/4 inches, and big hands that measured 10 inches. His measurables are great, giving him good play strength and a big catch radius. He can use his strength as a run blocker, but also knows how to clear space as a receiver.

He has great hands and can pluck the ball out of the air. His catch radius is big, as he can win jump balls and doesn’t have any trouble catching balls outside of his frame. The acrobatic catches are nice, but he also has good hands on routine catches, rarely having focus drops.

While he isn’t the most elusive player, he still has some decent ability to run after the catch. He uses his strength well to run through arm tackles and pick up extra yardage. Tillman has solid speed for his size as well, making tackling him even harder. He shows good vision in open field to pick up a decent amount of yards after the catch.

Cedric Tillman Weaknesses

Tillman is an older prospect and that didn’t exactly give him the opportunity to become a more experienced player. He played minimally his first three years at Tennessee. After a big 2021 season, Tillman played just six games in 2022 due to injury. He didn’t look like he did in 2021 after he came back from injury, so Tillman could be classified as a one-year wonder at that collegiate level.

His route running could improve to help his game. Tillman is a solid athlete, but can have trouble changing directions, which makes it tough for him to get in and out of his breaks. Cornerbacks with fluid hips could mirror him at the next level, which will make him have to win a lot of contested catches to be productive. He also needs to expand his route tree.

He can build up to good speed, but it does take a while. Tillman doesn’t have great burst right when the ball is snapped and it takes some time for him to gear up. The lack of suddenness could hurt him at the next level, so he’ll need to continue working on his releases.

Projected Draft Range: Second Round Pick-Third Round Pick

Draft Grade: Second-Round Pick
