Splashes of colour in the decor, wall paper and furniture transport buyers to a bygone era.

Oh, behave! A ‘shagadelic’ house in Brisbane’s southern suburbs has hit the market, with a retro palette that would make Austin Powers feel right at home.
Located at 9 Belvedere Street, Tarragindi, the contemporary post-modern home echoes the spy comedian’s abode, with its 60s interior with natural light and inviting glow.

The ‘shagadelic’ bathroom

Property owners Chris Liolios and Jaye Wolfe said when they bought the home nine years ago it was in an average condition.
“It was plain and boring,” Mr Liolios said.
“My wife is a designer and she executed a reverse renovation.
“We added some of the screens to suit the era and all the wallpaper and carpet is new.

The home mirrors the style of comedic fictional super spy Austin Powers.

“It’s very much Palm Springs inspired, we’ve travelled overseas a bit and Jaye, who is interested in vintage, has her own fashion label.

“The Tiki bar we converted from a laundry that was dank and unusable.

“The new owners don’t have to keep it as a bar they could very easily turn it into something else that suits their purpose.”

Mr Liolios and Ms Wolfe said they plan to move just outside Brisbane and do a similar project.
“The decor feels normal to us, our furniture has always been in that style,” Mr Liolios said.
“Once we get the new place it’ll be on an even larger scale.”
Property agent Darren Lewis-Date from Re/MAX Elevate Tarragindi said there had been substantial interest in the property.

“We have had huge numbers through the property based on the uniqueness and how on point the property is from a style point of view.

What was previously a ‘dank’ laundry has now been converted to an outdoor tiki bar with a fire pit.

“This listing is less traditional than what we usually get, it’s all about lifestyle and architectural flare.

“It has been elevated with a beautiful suburban view back to Toohey Forest Park.

“We’ve seen people from all walks of life come through the property that have a real appreciation for that era.

“Equally we’ve also seen people who would normally knock down the older homes to put larger footprints on it are too respectful of the home and wouldn’t want to knock it down.”

Every single room has been meticulously designed to reflect the flair of the 1960s era.

Mr Lewis-Date said the reverse renovation was very apt.

“Some of the decals on the walls, the timber screening and kitchen has been made to look like what it would have been many years ago”, he said.
“We have seen a shortage of properties for sale at the moment.

“There are multiple offers on every property and one of our properties recently had 16 offers.
“The type of people that could eventually buy this home might be a smaller family as we have good schools in Tarragindi, or a couple.”

The property is currently for sale and is seeking offers over $1.145m.
