Baldur’s Gate 3 is now out on Xbox Series X

Date:

Baldur’s Gate 3 is now out on Xbox Series X, Larian Studios announced Thursday at The Game Awards.

After taking home the top award of the night, Larian Studios shadow-dropped Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox Series X. “Xbox players, it’s party time,” Larian posted on X (formerly Twitter). “Baldur’s Gate 3 is now available for Xbox Series X|S; start your adventure today!” You can purchase Baldur’s Gate 3 for $69.99 on the Microsoft Store.

Larian Studios’ highly anticipated Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game was originally released on Mac and Windows PC on Aug. 3 before it came to PlayStation 5 in early September. But an Xbox Series X version of Baldur’s Gate 3 was delayed because Larian Studios couldn’t get the game’s split-screen cooperative play mode working on Microsoft’s Xbox Series S, the lower spec Xbox console. Microsoft requires games to be the same on both current-generation consoles, but it appears to have made a concession for Baldur’s Gate 3. And it makes sense: Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of 2023’s best games, and Xbox — and its players — are missing out.

More than 1.3 million people have completed Baldur’s Gate 3 in the months since it was released, and that number stands to go up drastically when Xbox players get started. It’s good timing, too: In November, Larian’s huge new update added playable epilogues with “some of the most complex writing in the game thus far,” along with new ways to play the game, including a hardcore setting called Honour Mode.
