Arriving Next Year, Songs of Glimmerwick Will Bring a World of Musical Witchery to Life

Date:

Songs of Glimmerwick

Songs of Glimmerwick is, despite being one letter away from an X-Rated Twilight musical, a gorgeous-looking adventure set in an academy for witches.

Yes, that’s witches, not wizards. As popular as Harry Potter is, The Worst Witch was doing magical academies all the way back in 1974 and while Songs of Glimmerwick may not have Jill Murphy’s stamp of approval, it’s giving us the same wonderful vibe.

Your customisable protagonist will get to meddle with potions, but her primary power is using music to cast spells. The trailer, for example, shows her using a flute to conjure an illusion of the academy and create a staircase out of the Earth. We’re hoping she’ll get her hands on an electric guitar at some point, but perhaps we’ve been playing playing The Artful Escape too much.

Musical magic aside, there are also classes to attend, RPG-style quests to undertake, a garden to tend and much much more. Or, you can just wander off and explore the island, the titular Glimmerwick. We’re curious to discover if skipping classes results in one of the teachers hunting you down, School Daze style.

Unfortunately, as appealing as Songs of Glimmerwick seems, it’s a good year or so away from release. But, given it’s from the developers of Eastshade, which we described as “a testament to an incredibly talented group of people”, it should be worth waiting for.

Songs of Glimmerwick is set to arrive in 2023, parking its broomstick on PC and consoles. In the meantime, you check out the trailer above, wishlist it on Steam and, right now, get Eastshade for a bargainous 50% off.
