All 25 jobs lost as no hope for Glasgow Car Movers in administration

Date:

Administrators called in to vehicle transporter firm Glasgow Car Movers have sadly made all the company’s 25 staff redundant.

The business, which has been hauling more than 1,000 vehicles each week across the UK with its fleet of more than 20 vehicle transporters, will be wound down.

Glasgow Car Movers had been operating since 1999, based in Uddingston, Glasgow, but had experienced liquidity pressures in recent times, partly due to the impact of the pandemic but also rapidly rising costs.

In 2022 it opted to contract hire a new transporter for the first time, having always bought outright previously, and at the time its director John Gorman said: “With costs rising across the board, a key priority when it came to acquiring this new vehicle was to find a way of accurately managing all associated costs over time. Fraikin’s contract hire solution offers us a clear picture of what expenses we can expect month by month.”

The business ceased to trade prior to its directors appointing Interpath Advisory as administrator this month.

Joint administrators Alistair McAlinden and Blair Nimmo found there was “no prospect of trade resuming” and made its 25 staff redundant.

Alistair McAlinden, head of Interpath Advisory in Scotland and joint administrator, said: “Our immediate priority is to provide employees with the support and information they need to be able to make claims from the Redundancy Payments Office, while effecting an orderly wind-down of the business.”
