5 Impactful ClimateTrade Projects Driving United Nations’ Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

Date:

ClimateTrade marketplace connects individuals to impactful projects, enabling contribution to the SDGs and positive impact on the planet.

In light of the recent updates to the United Nations SDG report we have curated a collection of five impactful projects that are driving the United Nations’ Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These projects encompass a wide range of initiatives aimed at addressing pressing environmental and social challenges. By supporting these projects, individuals and organizations can actively contribute to the realization of the SDGs and make a positive impact on the planet.

1: Safe Water for Sarankola, Bangladesh

Project overview: Bangladesh, currently ranked 135th on the Human Development Index, faces significant challenges due to climate change and inadequate access to safe water sources, particularly in its coastal belt. Locals rely heavily on surface water during the dry season and rainwater harvesting throughout the year.

By contributing to this project, you can support HELIOZ in providing clean drinking water to households in need. Your contribution enables the distribution of Water Disinfection Units (WADIs) and includes an introduction on how to use them effectively, ensuring access to safe and potable water for one household. Together, we can make a tangible difference in addressing water scarcity and improving the lives of communities in Bangladesh.

Supports 9 SDG Goals

No poverty
Good health and well-being
Quality education
Gender equality
Clean water and sanitation
Decent jobs and economic growth
Reduced inequalities

2: GHG Emissions Avoidance by Rescuing Food through the Mexican Foodbanking Network.

Project Overview: The Mexican FoodBanking Network is dedicated to rescuing surplus nutritious food and redistributing it to individuals in need, effectively combating food insecurity and mitigating significant pollution. By diverting food and unsold goods away from landfills and incinerators, the project plays a crucial role in preventing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Through their proactive efforts, they ensure that valuable resources are repurposed, contributing to a more sustainable and equitable food system while simultaneously addressing environmental concerns.

Zero hunger
Good health and well-being

3: Biochar Carbon Removal

Project Overview: The Enfield Biochar project, situated in Enfield, Maine, encompasses the establishment of a biochar pyrolysis pilot facility by Standard Biocarbon Corporation. Through the utilization of carbonization systems and the process of pyrolysis, this project converts wood chips and sawdust sourced from the nearby Pleasant River Lumber Company mill into high-quality biochar that meets stringent specifications for premium applications. Biochar, also known as biological charcoal, is a durable, porous form of carbon that remains inert for centuries.

Over a span of 30 years, the project is projected to prevent approximately 90,000 tCO2e from being released into the atmosphere.

4: Ejido Centauro del Norte: Forest Carbon Sequestration and Ecosystem Conservation

Project Overview: The Centauro del Norte ejido, situated in the state of Campeche, Mexico, spans across an expansive area of 9,994 hectares. Nestled within the vast forest region of the Mexican tropics, this ejido is characterized by its rich biodiversity and close proximity to the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve. The presence of significant forest remnants and diverse wildlife species underscores the ecological importance of this locality, which benefits from its adjacency to the protected reserve.

In recognition of its commitment to conservation, Centauro del Norte obtained certification as a Voluntary Conservation Area (VCA) in 2017. Furthermore, in 2018, they presented a Timber Forest Harvesting Plan covering 225 hectares for a period of 15 years. These initiatives demonstrate the ejido’s dedication to sustainable land management and the responsible utilization of forest resources.

Disclaimer: Please note that this project is currently undergoing the verification process as a Carbon Removal initiative. While verification is pending, we can provide you with comprehensive documentation to support the verification of this project. If you wish to support this initiative, please let us know, and we will send you the complete documentation.

5: Stopping Ocean Plastic – Brazil

Project Overview: The Plastic Bank initiative in Brazil aims to establish ethical collection communities in vulnerable coastal areas. Members of these communities actively collect plastic waste from the environment and bring it to their local Plastic Bank branch. In exchange for the collected plastic, community members receive secure income and various social benefits, including health and work insurance, meal vouchers, and cooking fuel. By supporting the Plastic Bank project in Brazil, you not only contribute to the reduction of ocean-bound plastic waste but also improve the lives of those involved in the collection process by providing them with incremental income and valuable social benefits.

As the United Nations SDG Progress Report outlined, progress towards the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has been slow. Challenges such as climate change, the war in Ukraine, and the cost of living crisis have not helped the situation, however, ClimateTrade aims to connect people with impactful projects to raise awareness of global initiatives that help drive the sustainable development goals forward.
