The 2023 Guaranteed Rate Bowl features the 8-4 Kansas Jayhawks against the 9-4 UNLV Rebels. Here is the 2023 Guaranteed Rate Bowl Preview.

Kansas Jayhawks (8-4)

Kansas won eight games to make their second-straight bowl game. They defeated three bowl-eligible teams: Iowa State, Oklahoma and UCF. On the other hand, all of their losses were to teams who made bowl games.

The Jayhawks score 33.9 points per game, ranking them 29th in the country. They pass for 222.7 yards (ranked 69th) and rush for 211.3 yards per game (ranked ninth).

Jalon Daniels has been the starting quarterback, but he has missed time with an injury. He has passed for 705 yards on the season. His backup, Jason Bean, has passed for 1,681 yards, 12 touchdowns and four interceptions on 61.4 percent completion. Five pass catchers have at least 200 receiving yards on the season. Lawrence Arnold leads the team with 650 yards and three touchdowns.

Four players have over 200 rushing yards on the season for Kansas. Devin Neal leads the team with 1,209 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns. Daniel Hishaw Jr. and Dylan McDuffie have contributed with 599 and 227 rushing yards respectively. Bean has rushed for 259 yards as well from the quarterback position.

Defensively, the Jayhawks give up 25.8 points per game, ranking 61st in the country. They allow 167.1 rushing yards (ranked 93rd) and 210.5 passing yards per game (ranked 41st). Safety Kenny Logan leads the team with 86 total tackles. Austin Booker has the team-high with eight sacks. Mello Dotson has made plenty of plays on the ball with nine passes defended and four interceptions.

UNLV Rebels (9-4)

UNLV won nine games to make their first bowl game since 2013. They defeated two bowl-eligible teams in Air Force and Wyoming. All four of their losses were to teams who made bowl games this season.

The Rebels score 34.3 points per game, ranking 24th in the country. They pass for 235.2 yards (ranked 55th) and rush for 179.5 yards per game (ranked 40th).

Jayden Maiava has led the Rebels at quarterback this season with 2,794 passing yards, 14 touchdowns and eight interceptions on 62.9 percent completion. Four pass catchers have over 200 receiving yars on the season. The most productive receiver on the Rebels has been Ricky White. He currently has 81 receptions for 1,386 yards and seven touchdowns.

Five players have at least 200 rushing yards on the season. Vincent Davis leads the pack with 722 rushing yards and six touchdowns. Jai’Den Thomas, Donavyn Lester and Courtney Reese have helped out with 503, 455 and 233 rushing yards respectively. Maiava has 261 rushing yards and three touchdowns from the quarterback position.

The Rebels defense allows 27 points per game, ranking them 69th in the nation. They concede 163.3 rushing yards (ranked 87th) and 238.7 passing yards per game (ranked 90th). Jackson Woodard has a team-high with 113 total tackles. Jerrea Williams has led the team in sacks from the secondary with three. Ricky Johnson has also impressed in the secondary with seven passes defended.

Prediction

Kansas has dealt with injuries this season, but have still played well. Their offense can run the ball well, but also can stretch a team vertically. They throw in some nice wrinkles to create big plays, which can help them win and cover.
