Vitality through to quarters, Complexity out of Pro League

Date:

Vitality secured their spot in the quarter-finals at ESL Pro League Season 14 after taking down Complexity 2-1. Dan “apEX” Madesclaire‘s squad dominated their opponent’s map pick of Vertigo but a strong showing by Complexity on Overpass meant the series was decided on Mirage.

“Today was a disaster, mainly our T side on Overpass,” commented Vitality‘s captain in regards to an uncharacteristic poor performance on one of their most successful maps. “The most important was the win today, we didn’t show up as we expected, but it’s life, we just need to work on that.”

Despite their flawed performance, Vitality are set to face Gambit on Thursday to challenge for a semi final spot.

The series began on Vertigo, Complexity‘s map pick. It was a half to forget for blameF‘s team as Vitality were able to win three early 1v2 clutches, allowing them to gain momentum and snowball their lead 12-0 while Jayson “Kyojin” Nguyen Van stepped up massively for the Frenchmen, providing several multikills on the CT side. Complexity were eventually able to salvage the last three rounds with some quick pushes on the A bombsite to end the half 12-3.

After a successful second pistol round, Vitality extended their lead and claimed map point at 15-3. Despite Complexity responding with three consecutive rounds, the French squad secured the map 16-6.

Complexity bounced back on Vitality‘s map pick of Overpass. The International mix was able to convert the first pistol and organize a very solid defensive side which the Frenchmen were not able to break. Valentin “poizon” Vasilev powered a great CT side, with the young Bulgarian seemingly finding impact every round, allowing his team to control the game and close the half 11-4.

On their CT side Vitality showed more of themselves, putting up a fight and doubling their rounds before Complexity eventually clinched the map 16-9.

Mirage proceeded in a similar fashion to the previous maps, with one side dominating the first half. In this case, it was Vitality whose dynamic T side kept Complexity on their toes despite poizon‘s best efforts to stop them. Richard “shox” Papillon led his team to a swift 12-3 half, with the veteran ending the first half with a 19-7 KD.

apEX converted the second pistol round for Vitality, taking down three in quick succession to hold the A bombsite. Complexity responded by winning the force buy and the following four rounds, enabling them to close the gap 12-14, but Vitality managed to stop the comeback, closing the map 16-12 and the series 2-0.
