EUIPO adopts CP13, CP14 Common Practices

In November 2023 the management board of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) adopted the CP13 Common Practice (Trade mark applications made in bad faith) and the CP14 Common Practice (Trade marks contrary to public policy or to accepted principles of morality). It has also approved the launch of the CP16 Common Practice (Signs describing the subject matter of goods and/or services).

Jamaica implements trade marks amendment rules

The Jamaican Trade Marks (Amendment) Rules 2022 came into force on 30 September 2023, bringing significant changes to the country’s intellectual property law in response to Jamaica’s accession to the Madrid Protocol on 27 March 2022.

Liechtenstein implements CP3 for figurative marks

With an aim to enhance transparency, legal certainty and predictability for the benefit of all stakeholders, the Bureau of Intellectual Property of the Office of Economics Affairs in Liechtenstein (Bureau) adopted the Common Practice on Distinctiveness of Figurative Marks Containing Descriptive/Non-Distinctive Words (CP3) on 29 November 2023 to guide its assessment of trademark applications.

Madrid Protocol fees revised for Chile

Pursuant to the provisions of the Common Regulations under the Madrid Agreement and Protocol Concerning the International Registration of Marks, the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization has notified the revised amounts of individual fees applicable when Chile is designated in an international application or in an application for renewal of international registration or is a subject of subsequent designation.

San Marino joins Madrid e-Filing community

On 11 December 2023 the San Marino State Office for Patent and Trademarks (USBM) launched the Madrid e-Filing system for its national applicants who want to protect their marks abroad under the Madrid Protocol Concerning the International Registration of Marks, thus becoming the 22nd intellectual property office to offer this facility

Viet Nam’s trademark data now available on TMview

On 11 December 2023 the Intellectual Property Office of Viet Nam (IP Viet Nam) made its trademark data available via TMview, an online search tool that allows users to access the databases of all participating trademark offices.
