The way employees work is set to change in 2021

Date:

Artificial intelligence is the new buzzword for companies all over the world, and it is quite exciting to see how this is being implemented all over the world. Using AI on a large scale will mean that the day-to-day experience will be very different for millions of employees all over the world, and they will need to change and adapt the way they work to be of any use in this new environment. Some of the ways in which AI and technology will change the work environment are detailed here.

One of the biggest changes will be that remote working is set to be the new normal in terms of how employees work. The pandemic meant that a large percentage of the workforce, all over the world, had to quickly adapt and move to working from home, but it is extremely likely that even when the world does return to normal sometime next year, we will see these numbers drop by only a little, as most people stick to remote working. 48% of American managers have said that they expect to have to increase the number of full-time employees who will work remotely next year, as part of a survey, and 37% of employees responded to the same survey by saying that they would want to work from home more regularly even after the pandemic has died down. This is expected to fundamentally change the way companies hire as well, with remote working now offered as a standard option for new hires, supported by technology.

This will naturally mean that there will need to be overhauls made to the way policies govern working rights. Germany is already working on a bill which will make working from home a right, for example, while some US states are creating policies which would require employers to reimburse employees for costs such as internet plans and laptops. Companies will need to do the same, by updating their internal policies and guidelines to reflect this new work environment.

Automation is also expected to support workers, not replace them. AI will help improve efficiency and optimize processes, which can only help employees with their daily tasks. This is already taking place in some industries – for example, according to the article by Winz.io, AI has been successfully introduced in the world of online gambling. Many online casinos have begun to use AI to improve their processes and offerings, as well as making the customer and user experience better. Online slot machines, for example, are using AI to minimize cheating and also provide a fair payout over time for players. Customer support bots which are often found on various websites are now being improved through AI, so that they can provide personalized and contextual help for users rather than the standard responses. AI is also being used to improve player ID, which helps online casinos target customers with the offers and bonuses that would be best suited for them, as well as avoiding fraudulent behaviour, while AI is also being used in a similar manner to target new customers with the right ads wherever needed.

Another change that we will see is that HR will need to become focused on strategy, rather than liabilities. HR departments will need to consider what work-from-home environments will be like, and devise strategies to deal with new types of issues and complaints in this environment.
The spread of technology has meant that many tech giants, such as Apple, Google or Amazon, are likely to enter the education space, to create and influence programs so that they have more ready access to the kind of workforce they need.
