A multimillion-dollar house? On the Upper East Side? Groundbreaking.

The New York townhouse where fictional magazine editor Miranda Priestly resided in David Frankel’s iconic The Devil Wears Prada film has hit the market.

It’s unsurprising that the home of the glamorous and aloof Runway editor-in-chief, speculated to be based on Vogue’s Anna Wintour, comes with a jaw-dropping $40m price tag (US$27m).

Fans of Frankel’s hit 2006 film will recognise the seven-bedroom, six-level home’s grand entrance and spiral staircase, where Anne Hathaway’s character Andrea ‘Andy’ Sachs delivers a mock-up of Runway magazine to the home of Meryl Streep’s character, Priestly.

But the iconic stairwell was also on the set of another fictional, Upper East Side world.

In teen drama Gossip Girl’s final episode, it was the set of Dan (Penn Badgley) and Serena’s (Blake Lively) wedding.

Modlin Group boss Adam D. Modlin has the listing for the neo-Italian renaissance-style limestone and marble townhouse, which last sold in 2003 for $8.8m.

Plus, adding to the 129 East 73rd St home’s A-list status, it’s also across the street from American journalist and political activist Gloria Steinem’s NYC pad.
