The best settings for Scavengers

Avatar

Published

on

While almost all developers strive to keep their games in top shape, it’s the competition that drives them to be better everyday. Updates of rival games or new features that are discovered by competitors are all reasons to keep pushing forward in terms of developing and maintaining a game.

As of today, the battle royale genre has a new competitor in the shape of Scavengers. Developed by Midwinder Entertainment, Scavengers is looking to shake up the genre by introducing a PvE element to the already successful formula of battle royales.

Scavengers matches are point based and players will be able to collect points from defeating NPCs and collecting resources. You’ll still have the option to get in fights with other squads in the game but it may not always be the most feasible action in a match.

Regardless of your gameplan, you’ll always want to play under the most optimal conditions to ensure that you can bring your A-game to every Scavengers match. Scavengers will look a lot better when you max out all the visual settings in the game, but you’ll need to find a decent balance between performance quality to increase your competitive advantage.

Here are the best settings for Scavengers.

Video settings

Display

  • Window Mode: Full screen
    • While playing on windowed mode can look convenient at first since it makes alt tabbing easier, it is far from being the most optimal way. When you start playing your favorite game in window mode, you’ll also be rendering your desktop. This’ll put additional strain on your pc and may even cost you a couple of frames in the process.
  • Resolution: 1920×1080 or your monitor’s native resolution
    • The 1080p resolution is considered as the golden standard of both gaming and content consumption. Generally speaking, a 1080p resolution will be enough to retain your competitive edge in Scavengers but you can also experiment with other values that your monitor natively supports.
  • Resolution Scaling: Disabled
    • If your PC isn’t struggling when it comes to hitting frames higher 60 then you won’t need to turn on this option.
  • Custom Resolution Scale: 100 percent
  • VSync: Disabled
    • VSync works wonders when it comes to reducing tearing, but it adds a little bit of input lag into the equation. Considering you’ll want to increase your competitive advantage by adjusting your settings in the most optimal way possible, VSync will be one of those settings that you’ll just need to turn off for the greater good.
  • DLSS: Off

Quality

  • Quality Preset: Custom
  • View Distance: Medium
    • Though setting your View Distance to its highest available option can look like a no-brainer, it can have its drawbacks. When you maximize the View Distance setting, you’ll start rendering objectives that too far away from you to be relevant. The Medium option looks to be the best alternative when it comes to offering best of both worlds, but you can also try out Low if you’re struggling to average high frames.
  • Anti-Aliasing: Low
    • Anti-Aliasing makes games quite more pleasant to look at while making it slightly easier to land headshots since it smoothen the edge of corners. The cons outweigh the pros on this one, however, and the advantages you’ll get by turning Anti-Aliasing will be just fall behind the competitive advantage you’ll get from more frames.
  • Post Processing: Low
    • Amongst all the visual settings in Scavengers, Post Processing makes the most difference when it comes determining how the game looks. Increasing it will make your game look considerably vibrant while also introducing some eye-candy effects. It’s also one of those settings that’ll increase your frames the most once turned off, so keeping it on Low will be the most feasible way to go if you’re looking to maximize your performance.
  • Shadows: Low
    • Shadows are an important part of almost all shooter games since they can help you locate an enemy without giving away your own positing. Setting Shadows at low will be more than enough the retain the competitive advantage of the feature while still retaining your frame rates.
  • Textures: High
    • When it comes to raw performance, there isn’t much of a difference between setting Textures to High or Low. You should average the same number of frames while playing, but you can consider setting this to low if you’re gaming on an entry-level PC.
  • Effects: Low
    • Effects can look awesome, but it doesn’t change the fact that they use way too many particles which can cause your frames to drop. Setting Effects to low will be the key to survive crowded battles since you won’t drop that many frames when something graphically intensive starts happening.
  • Foliage: Low
    • The quality of plants and grass in Scavengers may not be on a competitive player’s checklist. You won’t have time to look around and breathe in the atmosphere in hectic matches, meaning you won’t be losing a lot by keeping it a Low.

Advanced

  • DirectX version: DX11

Riot to target League’s systemic mobility in areas ‘where it has crept or gone too far’

Avatar

Published

on

It appears Riot is going for a change of pace with League of Legends’ mobility.

Gameplay design director Mark “Scruffy” Yetter updated fans today on all the Summoner’s Rift projects in the pipeline. And while most of them were already known, like the Tahm Kench update or increasing the viability of splitpushing, a new focus on limiting systemic mobility is definitely noteworthy.

“This is going to be both addressing major mobility outliers that go too far breaking intended weaknesses (like Stridebreaker) and trimming lots of small movement speed creep across items and runes,” Scruffy said. “These aren’t meant to be nerfs, just power shifts away from too much mobility.”

The “intended weaknesses” that Scruffy is likely alluding to is for bruiser champions that need to be relatively close to deal damage. Throwing Stridebreaker on an Olaf or Darius eliminates that weakness since it allows those champions to close the gap with a dash. These cases are outliers that negatively impact the integrity of the game, making it difficult for carries to escape their doom.

While those cases appear to be a more major focus of the systemic mobility reduction, Riot also plans to limit the movement speed that some items and runes provide. The Approach Velocity rune, for example, grants bonus speed when running at enemies whose movement is impaired. So if an AD carry gets hit by an Olaf axe, there’s little counterplay.

Riot didn’t offer a specific timeline for these changes, referring to it as a “new project” that the devs are “ramping up.” With little other information provided, it may still be in its early iterations. And if the mobility reduction isn’t enough, Riot will then target specific champions.

As for other projects players can expect down the line, Riot’s working on tank and enchanter legendary item options and a Sona mini-update.

Top Games

Jessica Rogers

Animal Crossing: New Horizon‘s Vivian is a beige-colored wolf with blue eyeshadow. She is a snooty villager who enjoys gossiping about other villagers. Vivian has been featured in every Animal Crossing game since Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

Vivian initially approaches players and other villagers with a negative attitude, but she also enjoys discussing fashion and the clothes that other villagers are wearing on the island. Eventually, as you continue talking with Vivian and gifting her items, she will soon share her thoughts and emotions with the player.

Vivian will most likely have some conflict with lazy, and jock villagers. She might not like lazy villagers because of their laidback attitude, and jock villagers do not care for fashion as much as snooty villagers. However, Vivian can socialize well with cranky and normal villagers.

The exterior of Vivian’s home in Animal Crossing: New Horizons consists of a neutral color scheme with an orange rooftop. Inside, she has decorated her home with the Rattan set, as well as an Iron-Wood Sink and a White Shower Booth.

Vivian has an education hobby and can be found reading a book or examining objects with a magnifying glass. Her outfit consists of a blue Peacoat and Skirt Combo. Vivian’s favorite colors are gray and purple. Her birthday is Jan. 26 and her favorite song is K.K. Cruisin’.

The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has finally detailed how its online “portal” and app will work as part of the revamped E3 2021 event.

This app will be one of the core features allowing the ESA and all of its partners to facilitate the all-digital E3 in a way that’s still interactive for fans around the globe.

Running from June 12 to 15, the public version of the E3 app will give users around the world access to exhibitor booths, lounges, forums, leaderboards, and profile creation options. Many of these features will work to try and simulate a more traditional E3 experience in a digital space.

“From the moment we decided to host E3 virtually, we’ve been focused on providing an interactive experience for fans around the globe that goes beyond the typical livestream,” said Stanley Pierre-Louis, president and CEO of the ESA. “The result is a bespoke online portal and app that will allow fans, media and industry professionals to have an E3 experience designed to run parallel to the four-day broadcast, laying the foundation for interactive E3 elements to continue beyond this year’s all-virtual show.”

Here are the specifics for each of the announced features:

  • Exhibitor booths
    • Special events, VOD content, articles, and more that will act as portals for information and announcements tied to specific exhibitors.
  • Lounges
    • Online spaces that will let E3 attendees gather and interact in various ways.
  • Forums
    • Specifically tailored boards that will focus on discussion and sharing among attendees.
  • Leaderboards
    • A tracker of sorts for the gamified show elements benign implemented into E3 2021.
  • Profile creation
    • A customizable profile that will be used within the app, will tie into the leaderboards, forums, and other elements.

The portal and app will feature the E3 live broadcast, with interactive overlays powered by Hovercast and more.

An additional five-day “media access week” will begin on June 7 ahead of the public launch on June 12. This will include an online calendar tool to help with scheduling appointments and different video conferencing and chat features.

More details about the portal, app, and E3 as a whole will be shared later this month once signups for media and public access become available.
