For years, there was a big heavy hitter when it came to multiplayer gaming. Before the days of battle, royales took over the world with the likes of Apex Legends or Fortnite we had Team Fortress 2. This was the game to playback in the day with players jumping online to participate in different game modes. While the game is still around and has a following, it’s not as much of an active title these past few years. That recently changed with a new player record hitting the game.
This FPS title has players joining a team and battling against another team, all with the same type of characters. With several classes to change up the playstyle depending on what you’re joining the game as, players would either be more of a tank, a medic, or even a stealthy spy. For years this was a game player was joining into the mix, but recently the game hit a record of over 150,000 players which is quite the feat especially for an older game like this one.
This record came after a patch was released which put a focus around stopping bots’ use in matches. You think being such an older game that this wouldn’t be a problem, but it was and this patch was able to curb some of the issues players had to deal with. Regardless, having a new record show up for this game after it first came out back in 2007 when it launched alongside The Orange Box is thrilling, especially for the fan base that has continued to log in regularly to play the title.
What we’re interested in seeing if this proves to be a big resurgence for the title. Valve is not one to go back and offer much content in their past games or franchises. Fans are still waiting on the fabled Half-Life 3 release and fortunately a spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead is coming out by Turtle Rock Studios, Back 4 Blood. All we can do is wait and see just how the game performs over the next few weeks to see if more players are jumping into this classic.
