A Brisbane cottage described as ‘beautiful’ and a ‘character home’ will go to auction next month, but buyers have been warned that no internal inspections will be allowed.

And when you see the listing photographs, it is easy to see why.

There is plenty of character there!

“This home is in some desperate need of some love and attention,” the listing by Public Trustee auctioneer Paul Doyle says.

Described as a ‘beautiful pre-war detached workers cottage’ and a ‘character home in Toowong”, the property does not look too bad from the outside, with a window boarded up and vines growing from the gutters.

The vines are a nice touch

But inside tells a different story.

The toilet and bathroom are a disaster, while the walls in other rooms are in need of a serious wash.

The bathroom needs, well, gutting

The flooring is anyone’s guess and the kitchen, forget it.

So does the kitchen

But it sits on a 632sqm block of prime real estate in inner-city Brisbane, and is close to sought-after schools, amenities and the Brisbane River.

“This home offers the best of both worlds… leafy suburban living just minutes from the city,” the listing says.

“This property has the potential to be a great family home in a great location.”

Given its age, the property will have to be retained, but there is the opportunity to renovate, raise or extend the cottage, subject to council approval.

Haven’t seen fluoro green before

Currently, the cottage has three bedrooms, a front sunroom, a large central living area and meals room, and that absolutely original kitchen.

The VJ walls look to be in decent shape

Features include high ceilings and VJ walls.

“Note that no internal inspections are available,” the listing says.

“Buyers are encouraged to do their own research and due diligence in preparation for auction day.”

The median house price in Toowong is $1.45 million, according to realestate.com.au.

The cottage will go to auction at 2pm on March 22.

The cottage will no doubt attract flippers
