Stars of the game

2:10 into the first period, San Jose’s Jacob MacDonald opened the scoring with assists from Mario Ferraro and Ty Emberson. Emberson suffered a lower body injury against New Jersey and was out for Sunday’s game against the New York Rangers.

New Jersey’s Dawson Mercer scored a power play goal to tie up the game in the first.

MacDonald scored his second goal early in the next period to earn him the third star of the game. Matt Benning and Justin Bailey picked up assists.

Giving the Sharks a two goal lead was Anthony Duclair assisted by Mikael Granlund at 9:47 in the second. Duclair last picked up points in the Sharks’ first win of the season against the Philadelphia Flyers in November. The forward also earned the first star of the game.

The third period saw the Devils attempt to comeback with goals from Jack Hughes and Ondrej Palat. Another pair of goals from the Sharks’ Granlund at 13:38 and William Eklund with an empty netter secured the win.

The Sharks were outshot 47-18 but maintained enough control to end their winless streak on the road. The team continues their road trip with games against New York Islanders, Detroit Red WIngs, and Vegas Golden Knights. The Sharks next home ice game is December 12 against the Winnipeg Jets.
