Samsung is partnering with British Gas to help UK customers take control of their household energy consumption.

Together we are now able to harness SmartThings Energy to provide customers with easier control into optimising their daily routines and energy use,” explained Chanwoo Park, Executive Vice President at Samsung.

The collaboration expands the reach of SmartThings Energy, integrating seamlessly with British Gas’ PeakSave incentive program to foster more efficient energy use within homes.

British Gas is the leading energy and home services provider in the UK. The company services 10 million homes and businesses and is committed to aiding the nation in achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050 through various energy-efficient home improvement initiatives.

A key outcome of this collaboration is the integration of SmartThings Energy’s Auto Demand Response (Auto DR) feature with British Gas’ PeakSave. This integration, which is now available, enables British Gas customers to earn rewards by shifting their electricity usage during peak hours—contributing to overall energy conservation. SmartThings Energy’s Auto DR achieves this by adjusting appliance operating modes when triggered by an event.

To activate the Auto DR feature, users can adopt different methods depending on their appliances. The AI Energy Mode can be automatically activated, saving extra energy in supported appliances.

Additionally, a power-off function allows users to consume less energy by turning off certain appliances, including third-party lights and plugs. Furthermore, smart temperature adjustment for EHS (Heatpump) products and third-party thermostats offers more potential for savings.

Samsung has already introduced its DR service in various regions, including Seoul, California, and New York. The company aims to explore additional collaborations and expand its service globally, contributing towards the Net Zero Home initiative.
