Royal Never Give Up Topple FunPlus Phoenix to Become 2021 LPL Spring Split Champions

Royal Never Give Up have outclassed FunPlus Phoenix en route to becoming the 2021 LPL Spring Split champions! This is also a welcome reminder of just how amazing the double-elimination format truly is — a fertile ground for the most mind-blowing redemption arcs and twists that’ll make your mouth water!

We’re just twelve days removed from FPX beating RNG in the upper half of the playoffs bracket so, in all fairness, this most recent result will surely come as a shock. It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, but that’s competitive League of Legends in a nutshell: it doesn’t always compute, and that’s partly why we love it so much. Then again, these are some of the best and most capable teams in the entire world — there’s really no reason why they wouldn’t be able to lick their wounds, go back to the drawing board, and mount a comeback. That’s precisely what RNG pulled off, and they made it look relatively easy too.

An Insanely Competitive Affair

Things didn’t start off that way, though. FunPlus Phoenix got the better of them in game one, and for a brief moment it looked like we were in for a bit of déjà vu. Fortunately for RNG, that was far from the case. Game two was equally as competitive, but RNG were ever so slightly quicker to react. They rotated more often and found the right picks at the most crucial of moments. Yuan “Cryin” Cheng-Wei’s incredible Ryze and Shi “Ming” Sen-Ming’s roaming allowed RNG to turn the tides and even the score.

Game three, however, was the beginning of the end for FunPlus Phoenix. It started off with a clean double kill in the bottom lane. That eventually gave Royal Never Give Up all the momentum they needed to become 2021 LPL Spring Split Champions. They didn’t exactly have a gold lead per se (not an insurmountable one, at least), but they started playing with a lot more confidence and zest which was arguably far more important. It’s all about tempo in the LPL, and RNG were the ones who were able to dictate the pace of the game from start to finish. Twenty minutes in, Chen “GALA” Wei was able to seal FPX’s fate with a fantastic pentakill and eventually close things out five minutes later.

The fourth and final game started off in much the same fashion: a blunder in the top lane and two quick kills for RNG. By the eleven-minute mark, this perennial LPL giant had basically sealed the deal, and closing things out was merely a formality. It took them less than twenty-two minutes to topple the former World Champions and lock down a spot at the 2021 Mid-Season Invitational!

In the end, their incredible regular season run wasn’t just a fluke but rather an indication of their overall strength and long-term potential. Still, they’ll need all the hype and momentum they can get if they intend on trading blows with DWG KIA — the most dominant team the world of competitive LoL has to offer.

Needless to say, the 2021 Mid-Season Invitational can’t come soon enough!

How to recruit a friend in World of Warcraft

Avatar

Published

Blizzard Entertainment’s “Recruit A Friend” program is a way for current players to get benefits from recruiting their friends to join them in playing World of Warcraft by offering a range of rewards.

Recruiting friends to play WoW can earn you a plethora of “explorer”-themed goodies as well as free Game Time tokens. So essentially, you pay for parts of your subscription by convincing friends to play too.

Your recruited friends get a couple of benefits as well. Not only do they get an “Extra Spacious Knapsack” to help them start their journey, they also get the ability to summon the person who recruited them every 30 minutes if they’re in a group with them. So you don’t necessarily need to play a Warlock to summon your friends that you just recruited to play with you.

To start your friend recruitment process, all you need to do is go to the social tab in your retail WoW client. The default keybind for opening your friend list in WoW is “o”.

On your social panel in-game, there will be a tab next to “Friends” and “Ignore” labeled “Recruit A Friend.”

At the bottom left of that panel, there will be a red button labeled “Recruitment.” Click that and a new panel will pop out asking you if you’d like to generate a link for your friends to use when setting up their WoW account.

Once you’ve generated and copied that link. Just send it to your friends, and once they’ve set up their WoW subscription, you’ll start to get all the perks from recruiting those friends.

Here is a list of the rewards you can get from recruiting a friend in retail WoW:

  • 1 month: Pet monkey named Rikki
  • 2 months: 30 days of Game Time
  • 3 months: Explorer’s Dunetrekkar mount
  • 4 months: Renowned Explorer title
  • 5 months: 30 days of Game Time
  • 6 months: Stinging Sands weapon enchantment appearance
  • 7 months: Renowned Explorer’s Tabard
  • 8 months: 30 days of Game Time
  • 9 months: Explorer’s Jungle Hopper mount
  • 10 months: Renowned Explorer’s Rucksack
  • 11 months: 30 days of Game Time
  • 12 months: Renowned Explorer’s attire
  • Every three months after 12 months: 30 days of Game Time

The official Call of Duty Twitter account posted a cryptic message last night that appears to hint at Rambo, one of the most iconic movie characters of all time, coming to Warzone

John Rambo is the main character from the popular Rambo film series introduced in the early ’80s. Sylvester Stallone has played the character in five feature films and the latest movie was released in 2019.

Rambo is known for his large size, dangerous demeanor, and ability to take on entire armies single-handedly. He’s appeared in other video games, like Mortal Kombat, as a playable character and the latest teaser indicates that he might be coming to Warzone

The Call of Duty Twitter account posted a message asking if anyone knows SURVIVORJOHN#1009062 and their Warzone Report is a “sight to be seen.”

The report contains several nods to Rambo, including the obvious nod to his first name. The “player” has five wins, which is the same as the number of Rambo movies, and seven hours played, which is close to the total running time of the movies combined. The “player” also has 552 kills, which is Rambo’s reported total number of kills in the movies.

The recent switch to Verdansk ’84 introduced the possibility of ’80s action heroes appearing in Warzone to match the setting. This teaser hints that Rambo could be the first character joining the mayhem. Other iconic characters might make an appearance in Warzone in the future, too.

Call of Duty League returns to LAN for Stage 4 Major in Dallas on June 17

The Call of Duty League is going back to LAN next month after more than a year of online-only events.

The Stage Four Major, which begins on June 17, will mark the return of offline events and will be hosted at the Esports Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The Major will run from June 17 to 20 and will feature all 12 of the league’s teams fighting for their share of the $500,000 prize pool and crucial CDL Points.

Nearly 14 months ago, the CDL moved to online-only competition in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The last time the CDL ran an offline event was in March 2020 when the Dallas Empire won the Los Angeles Home Series. The Empire went on to win the first CDL Championship in August and will now play host to the return of offline events.

There will be no live crowd in attendance, in accordance with “strict COVID-19 protocols,” according to the league. Only teams and limited CDL staff will be in attendance, with rapid response COVID-19 testing taking place throughout the event. Call of Duty League commentators and hosts will remain remote, while Jess Brohard will be on-site for interviews following matches.

This is part of an “initial return to live tournaments,” with all future events following strict protocols as well. Daniel Tsay, the general manager of Call of Duty esports, confirmed with Dot Esports that the Stage Four regular season matches will still be played online. So far, no decisions or announcements have been made regarding the Stage Five Major or the CDL Championship.

Before the Stage Four Major kicks off, however, the final week of Stage Three group play and the Stage Three Major have to be played. The Stage Three Major starts on May 12.
