Bargain house hunters and first home buyers across Brisbane are being urged to consider buying in an outer Brisbane suburb to break into the competitive property market.

For Matt and Marie Yates, purchasing their first home in Griffin was an obvious choice due its affordability and proximity to amenities after it was named one of Brisbane’s top 50 most liveable suburbs, a report shows.

“Griffin is so close to the highway and just around the corner from North Lakes. It’s really close to Redcliffe, Bribie Island and the Sunshine Coast as well. We’re also close to the ocean and Griffin gets a good sea breeze,” Mr Yates said.

“Anything inbound from the Pine River there’s nothing that isn’t north of $500,000 at the moment. We were thinking Kallangur originally, but always knew we wanted to get into Griffin when we started looking.

“Our son Archer just turned one, I’m a school teacher so I know all of the good schools in the area.”

Mr Yates said that he was unsure whether his family would wait for the equity to grow in Griffin and sell up or if they would stay there in the long term.

“If my work was to move I wouldn’t be opposed to be relocating elsewhere. I think we’ll just have to wait and see.

Property agent Sam Zghayar from Image Property Brisbane Northside said he has been selling in Griffin for more than seven years and has seen a lot of improvements to the area.

“Griffin is 20 mins to the airport, it’s next to North Lakes which has a lot of beautiful infrastructure like the Westfield, Ikea and Costco. The area is just fantastic value for money, first home buyers are really drawn to the area with rent going up they want to get into the property market and start building their equity,” Mr Zghayar said.

“It has easy access to the highway and cuts out a lot of the traffic from North Lakes. A lot of people who work in the city choose it because it’s has very easy access to the highway, you can catch a train to Brisbane from Murrumba Downs.
Mr Zghayar said he’s feeling very positive about the market growth in the area.

“We’ve got a lot of people moving from the south side and choosing to have the lifestyle that Brisbane’s north offers. I’m also seeing a lot of people moving from NSW and Victoria,” he said.
“The family orientated environment that you can get in Griffin is unmatched. We’ll see what has happened in North Lakes and Mango Hill in Griffin. There’s a new shopping centre called Freshwater Village opening soon.

“Investors and first home buyers see the value in buying in Griffin because it’s attractive and affordable.”
