The Chengdu Hunters come 13th of our Overwatch League 2021 power rankings.

The team is one of the most flexible in the entire League, with a large roster allowing frequent replacements.

Chengdu Hunters 2021 Roster Preview

The Chengdu Hunters have one of the largest rosters in the entire Overwatch League. With a total of 12 players, the team has two starting players and two benched ones for each role.

  • Luo “Elsa” Wenjie
  • Ma “LateYoung” Tianbin
  • Ding “Ameng” Menghan
  • Qiu “GA9A” Jiaxin

The tanking line of the Chengdu Hunters does not change much this season compared to the last. Luo “Elsa” Wenjie, Ma “LateYoung” Tianbin, and Ding “Ameng” Menghan have been forming the Chengdu Hunters frontline since late 2018.

Overwatch player Ding "Ameng" Menghan walks out into the Overwatch League arena with a Chengdu Hunters jersey on.

Joining the tanking trio this season is Qiu “GA9A” Jiaxin. The main tank player won the Overwatch Contenders 2020 Season 1: China and The Gauntlet: Asia with Team CC. He shares the same hero pool as Ding “Ameng” Menghan, especially for their respective Wrecking Ball plays.

Support:

  • Li “Yveltal” Xianyao
  • Tan “Nisha” Li
  • Cao “Farway1987” Jiale
  • Zhou “Mmonk” Xiang

Li “Yveltal” Xianyao is the only support player from the Chengdu Hunters 2021 roster that played with the team last season. The main support player, who placed second in both Overwatch World Cup 2018 and 2019, is the Chengdu Hunters captain and a steady value for the team.

Tan “Nisha” Li is the second main support player of the Chengdu Hunters. He won the Overwatch Contenders 2018 Season 3: China and placed second in the 2019 Season 1 with T1W. After a break, he came back in the Overwatch Contenders with Bilibili Gaming, the academy team of Hangzhou Spark. The team placed third in the Overwatch Contenders 2020 Season 1 and Season 2 China. Nisha is now making his first steps in the Overwatch League with the Chengdu Hunters.

Cao “Farway1987” Jiale joined the Chengdu Hunters a few days after Nisha. The flex support player was a key member of Team CC, with which he won the NetEase Esports X 2020 Spring Tournament, Overwatch Contenders 2020 Season 1: China, and The Gauntlet: Asia.

Completing the support roster of the Chengdu Hunters is Zhou “Mmonk” Xiang. The flex support player has been consistently on the podium of the Overwatch Contenders 2020. He won the Overwatch Contenders 2020 Season 2: China with Flag Gaming and the Flash Ops: Experimental Card Tournament China.

DPS:

  • Yi “JinMu” Hu
  • Huang “leave” Xin
  • Lei “Jimmy” Yujia
  • Liu “Kaneki” Nian

Yi “JinMu” Hu is the most experienced player from the Chengdu Hunters DPS roster. He has been playing with the team since 2018, just like the tanking trio and Yveltal. Huang “leave” Xin joined the team in 2019. JinMu and leave both have a wide hero pool, allowing them to quickly adapt to any enemy team composition.

In late 2020, the Chengdu Hunters signed two other DPS players. Lei “Jimmy” Yujia is a hitscan specialist. He played with various teams in the Overwatch Contenders, the latest being the Guangzhou Charge academy team, UP Academy.

Liu “Kaneki” Nian also comes from the Overwatch Contenders. He placed third in the Overwatch Contenders 2019 Season 1 and Season 2 China with LGD Gaming, before joining Cosmos et Veritas Gaming and later Team Cat.

The Chengdu Hunters are heading into the Overwatch League 2021 Season with a roster packed with Chinese talents. While the core of the team remains similar to the past League season, the Chengdu Hunters strengthen its roster with new players.

Depending on the meta, the Chengdu Hunters could perform better than they did last season. Their biggest advantage is the flexibility of the roster, as most players are comfortable switching to a large range of heroes.

However, the team lack cohesion and experience other teams have in the League, placing the Chengdu Hunters at 13th place in our Overwatch League 2021 Power Rankings.
