Househunters have no shortage of luxurious main bedrooms to choose from but this off-grid Myponga Beach home may have them all beat – and it’s easy to understand why.

Spending days in bed could quickly turn into a new hobby at 103C Whitelaw Rd, which has been built to encapsulate unmatched views across the Fleurieu Peninsula – all while offering a utility-free lifestyle.

The near-new, three-bedroom home, is completely self-sustained, and has been listed for sale with a price guide of $2.1m to $2.3m.

It is likely to set a new sales record for the popular locality, which forms part of the Yankalilla Council.

Owners Geoff and Eleanor Allan said they purchased the property in 2016 with the view to create a sanctuary to escape the stresses of work life.

The couple both work in health care, with Covid adding additional pressure to daily life.

“I worked in mental health for 30-odd years and my wife has worked as a CEO in health, so being able to walk away from work and come here, you just forget about all the troubles in the world,” Mr Allan said.

“We bought this property for its views and positioning because on a clear day, you can see right across the (Fleurieu) Peninsula and you can also see down to Port Adelaide and the TV antennas on Mount Lofty.

“So for us, buying this property was about retiring here and living here permanently … but then we had the agent come through to value it and you almost had to pick me off the floor (when we were told how much the property is worth).

“So now we’ve decided to start fresh somewhere else.”

Mr Allan said the home, which is on 32.37ha of land, was ideal for buyers seeking to escape the rat race.

However, he said the home could also be converted into holiday accommodation – that’s if you’re willing to pay the $2m-plus price guide.

Architecturally designed and completed in 2021, the home has three bedrooms, including a spacious master with a walk-in closet, an ensuite and access to a private study.

An open-plan living area is set in the centre of the home and includes a modern kitchen with a butler’s pantry.

Outside, the home offers plenty of space to entertain, from the three-sided deck or the expansive lawn.

Other key features include a solar PV system, battery storage and diesel backup generator, a 225,000L water tank supplied via solar pump from one of the dams, 125,000L rainwater tanks supplied from the house, a 90,000L rainwater tank supplied from the shed, two farm sheds and extensive fencing to house livestock, if desired.

Mrs Allan said the property would leave buyers wanting for nothing.

“The idea of being completely off-grid, that was made appealing during the Covid pandemic but I was also a bit of a hippy during my youth and so that carried through,” she said.

“We’ve been able to have animals here, so have been able to kill our own meat and grow our own vegetables and just tread lightly on the planet.
“We don’t pay for sewerage, we don’t pay water or electricity bills – the only thing we do pay are rates, so this really is a great place to come home to.”
