IBGC and Mattos Filho: Highlights on solid waste and circular economy

Date:

Two major Brazilian references engaged in issues related to solid waste and circular economy:

  1. Brazilian Institute of Corporate Governance (IBGC). Last August 30th, its ESG Community held an experience on plastic chain

  2. Mattos Filho. Published yesterday a great report with the main regulatory acts and legislative trends

Here is what was highlighted by the Mattos Filho team, including Antonio Augusto Reis and Lina Pimentel:

  1. Institution of the Reverse Logistics Recycling Credit Certificate, the General Packaging Structuring and Recycling Certificate and the Future Mass Credit Certificate, within the scope of logistics systems (DL 11.413)

  2. Pro-Waste Pickers Program for Popular Recycling (DL 11,414)

  3. Incentive to projects for the use of energy coming from solid waste (PL 302/2018)

In addition, the following state systems of reverse logistics for packaging in general were regulated: Mato Grosso do Sul, Mato Grosso, Rio de Janeiro, Maranhão, Amazonas and Goiás. And at the international level, the 2nd Meeting of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on Plastic Pollution (“INC2”), held in Paris, France.

IBGC ESG Community, a team coordinated by Beatriz Pacheco and Ricardo Young, and members such as Gabriela Blanchet and Gustavo Lucena, was in Itatiba (SP) to learn about a business that reduces the environmental impact of plastic and promotes inclusion and income generation of cooperatives. It is a company with the capacity to recycle 25 thousand tons/year of polypropylene and high-intensity polyethylene resins, which are used in the manufacture of packaging by large consumer goods companies, such as Unilever, Natura and L’Oreal.
