While the benefits that can accrue to one’s personal career development and networking trajectory from presenting at a major conference are noteworthy, they don’t stop there. Elisa Cascade, MBA, a member of the Conference Content Advisory Team that is building the program for the ACRP 2024 meeting, urges potential speakers to think about the knock-on effect a high-quality, memorable presentation can have for the reputations and visibility of the organizations they come from—whether those are study sites or networks, research sponsors, contract research organizations (CROs), institutional review boards, regulatory bodies, technology vendors, staffing services, or any of the myriad other stakeholders in the clinical research enterprise.
“If you, for example, represent a study sponsor, CRO, or technology company whose leaders are interested in networking with more sites, then you should consider submitting an abstract for the ACRP 2024 meeting,” says Cascade, who is also the 2023 Vice Chair of the Association Board of Trustees for ACRP and will be its Chair in 2024. “Alternatively, if you come from a site or site-supporting organization and have a success story about any aspect of the research process that you think would be valuable for sponsors and others to hear—concerning clinical trial operations, technology implementation, professional development, or new research models as examples—we also encourage you to submit an abstract so that others can learn from your experience.”
The Proposal Submission Site for ACRP 2024 (to be held May 3–6 in Anaheim, Calif.) is open now through July 24. Submitted proposals should show how the speaker(s) will create an experience that inspires and empowers; features interactive, engaging learning; and showcases emerging trends and innovations. “Conference sessions are well attended by a diverse group of clinical research professionals—all of whom are very engaged in learning more and eager to share feedback,” Cascade says. “Plus, it is a great opportunity to renew acquaintances with colleagues from around the world that may have been interrupted by world events in recent years, make new friendships and contacts with professionals coming from diverse backgrounds, and enjoy all the other benefits of being immersed with an audience of your peers.”
ACRP seeks proposals that enhance the competencies, skills, professional advancement, and knowledge of mid- to advanced-level clinical research professionals. The primary attendees at ACRP conferences are professionals who have three or more years of experience, and the vast majority are certified professionals who attend seeking education units to maintain certification.
Through the review process, ACRP staff and volunteers will evaluate how well the proposals reflect emerging trends, new ideas, engaging learning, and knowledge level in support of ACRP’s curricular framework. Priority consideration will be given to those topics that directly translate to improving competency, enhancing quality conduct, and fostering career advancement. Feedback will be provided on every proposal, accepted or not, by November 1, 2023.
