The Plucky Squire captured our attention the moment we laid eyes on its debut trailer, and we can’t wait to see what it has in store for us when it launches later this year on PS5. The action adventure game presents itself as a gorgeous storybook quest, but the real hook is that the main character, Jot, can hop into the third dimension at certain spots, and continue his journey in the “real” world. This new gameplay trailer gives us just one example of how the two perspectives allow for some inventive puzzles.
Jot and his friend Thrash are travelling through the book, and come up against a blocked path. To open the gate, they need a pass, which can be found inside a nearby cave. Jot hops out of the book and looks for one, flipping the pages of the book to find it. Hopping back to 2D, he journeys through the cave to find an old mine, then has to combine the second and third dimensions to solve a simple puzzle. In 3D, Jot can lift one side of the book to tip a platform so it slides into a new position, allowing him to advance within the book.
It just looks so imaginative and clearly has buckets of charm. This is just one short puzzle, and we can’t wait to see what else The Plucky Squire has up its sleeve.
