Dota 2: The Best Mid Heroes for Beginners

Date:

We take a look at some of the best mid Dota 2 heroes for beginners.

Dota 2 is a game where every position counts. Even though some people may argue carries are the most important heroes in the game, we think the mid laner plays a more important role. Of course, this largely depends on the meta. Sometimes, the carries get all the attention.

Still, one of the reasons why the mid lane is so popular is because it allows players the chance to compete in a 1vs1 scenario. Although the support heroes will probably gank a lot, the two mid-laners usually have enough time to test their skills.

Needless to say, playing in a 1vs1 environment isn’t easy, especially if you don’t have a lot of experience. That’s why it is essential to pick the right hero for the job. There are loads of good mid-lane heroes out there, but only a few of them are suitable for beginners.

With that being said, let’s take a look at the most popular heroes that you can try out. What makes these heroes so special is the fact you can play well with them in mid even if you don’t have a lot of experience.

Alchemist

The first hero we want to highlight is Alchemist. Even though some teams decided to use him as an offlaner, Alch remains one of the go-to options for the mid lane. This shouldn’t come as a surprise because this is the fastest-farming character in Dota 2.

As long as Alch gets a good start, he can easily dominate the enemy team in less than fifteen minutes. Once the hero purchases Radiance, he becomes an even faster farming machine.

Even though Alchemist isn’t tricky to master, the hero is one who has to end the game before it reaches its later stages. While it is true he has a lot of potential, the hero is not as strong as some of the other late-game monsters, such as Anti-Mage, Phantom Lancer, Morhpling, and so on. But, if you see a Lycan in your pub’s draft, Alchemist is a solid pick in the midlane to land yourself an early win.

Lina

The second hero who can be an excellent choice for people new to the game is Lina. This Dota 2 mid laner hero has a lot of firepower early on, which makes it ideal against squishy opponents, such as Shadow Fiend.

Lina is a powerful nuker that can easily farm up her core items, which include things like Shadow Blade, Aghanim’s Scepter, and Eul’s Scepter of Divinity. Even though she can do tons of damage in a matter of seconds, the hero is still squishy because she has no escape mechanism. Defensive items like Phase Boots or Force Staff can be a good choice to mitigate this weakness. Furthermore, landing the stun is easier said than done, especially if the enemy heroes know how to juke and avoid it.

Another thing worth noting, Lina is great against agility carries because her ultimate can bring the hero down to half HP.

Zeus

This hero is similar to Lina because it also does tons of magical damage. However, instead of being more single-target focused, Zeus can inflict loads of damage on multiple heroes at once.

Unfortunately, this is one of the mid laners with the worst attack animations in the game. This means the only way to secure last-hits is by using Arc Lightning because this is a spammable nuke capable of inflicting a decent amount of damage.

Unlike most spell-casters, Zeus is powerful even in the late game because he can one-shot most support heroes. Moreover, his passive skill allows him to be effective against strength cores.

One of the essential things to remember is that Zeus needs to have at least two defensive items in order to survive. Since he doesn’t have any way of escaping, he needs things, such as Force Staff, Blink Dagger, and Eul’s Scepter of Divinity.

Viper

The final hero on this list is probably one of the biggest nightmares to lane against. Viper is a hero that’s notorious for being one of the strongest laners. Meaning thanks to his tanky nature and loads of damage, he can quickly destroy the enemy hero in a 1v1 scenario.

If you pick Viper, make sure to buy Boots of Speed as fast as possible. It will allow you to chase your opponents and even secure a kill before you reach level six. After the laning stage is over, your job is to push and secure as many towers as possible.

Some people decide to go for the “Viper-carry” build. The latter includes popular range-damage items, such as MKB, Daedalus, Maelstorm, etc.
