Complexity beat FaZe in coldzera’s debut at BLAST

Date:

Complexity have advanced to the Group C upper bracket final after besting FaZe in a two-map series, cruising through Nuke before surviving an onslaught on Ancient, where the teams fought into overtime before Complexity were able to edge out a win.

“Ancient was one of the maps we started out practicing because we knew that people thought it was one of our weaker maps,” blameF explained in a post-match interview following the win. “We made sure we put in some proper time on that one because we haven’t had enough time to put time on every single map, so we focused a little bit more on some maps and Ancient was one of them.”

The in-game leader also touched on the addition of Marcelo “coldzera” David and the cycling of players the team has had to deal with in recent months, saying that it has been stressful and tiring to explain and go through every single map in Complexity‘s pool individually with Luis “peacemaker” Tadeu, Patrick “es3tag” Hansen, Niels Christian “NaToSaphiX” Sillassen, and now coldzera, but acknowledging that it is something that needed to be done.

An even harder test awaits Complexity on Saturday in their upper bracket final match, where they’ll take on Natus Vincere at 16:30 for a spot in the BLAST Premier Fall Final.

coldzera had a solid debut for Complexity, averaging a 1.16 rating

It was Valentin “poizon” Vasilev who led the way for Complexity in a T side start to their map pick, Nuke, mustering a 4-1 lead before FaZe were able to respond with five rounds of their own. Resilience from Complexity kept the teams deadlocked at halftime, but once the sides swapped over, control went firmly in the favor of blameF‘s side as their aggressive faces outside helped them to lock down the defense, conceding just one additional round en route to a 16-8 win.

Ancient was equally contentious at the onset, with coldzera scoring a triple kill to kick things off, allowing Complexity to win an early battle of attrition and pull ahead, 6-3. AWPing heroics from Helvijs “broky” Saukants helped FaZe stay in the running though, and once again it was only a narrow lead that was claimed at the break with Complexity edging ahead, 8-7.

FaZe were able to reply in the second half thanks to multi-kill rounds from broky and Russel “Twistzz” Van Dulken, but Complexity were hot on their heels as they won five in a row to regain the high ground, 13-10. The fight for match point came to a head after a key triple kill from Håvard “rain” Nygaard put a halt to a B bombsite attack from Complexity, allowing FaZe to claim match point, only for a fast B execute out of spawn from blameF‘s side to force overtime.

That rapid pace from Complexity continued in the first two overtime rounds, with swift B and A bombsite attacks granting them a lead before a triple kill from Twistzz gave FaZe a lifeline. However, that single round proved not to be enough for FaZe, who fell to a flank from coldzera for Complexity to reach match point, with a conversion in the subsequent round netting them a win.
