Commanders Trade DE Montez Sweat to Bears

Date:

Despite being just 2-6, the Chicago Bears have made a trade deadline move to acquire yet another defensive piece. Defensive end Montez Sweat has been traded from the Commanders to the Bears for a 2024 second-round pick.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news via Twitter on Halloween.

Sweat was a first-round pick (26th overall) out of Mississippi State in the 2019 NFL Draft by the Washington Commanders. He is currently in the last year of his deal as the Commanders picked up his fifth-year option ahead of the season.

In seven games with Washington so far this year, Sweat has 27 combined tackles, 5.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and a pass defended. His career high in sacks came in his sophomore year (2020), with nine. He’s on pace to beat that mark in 2023.
