Shield Compliance is a comprehensive compliance management platform for banking cannabis-related businesses. The company’s focus is on transforming the way cannabis banks and legal marijuana financial institutions manage risk, comply with regulations, and satisfy operational demands across the United States.

Cannabiz Media recently spoke with Tony Repanich, President and Chief Operating Officer at Shield Compliance, to learn more about how he and his team use the Cannabiz Media License Database to support their business development, data intelligence, and license verification processes.

Why Does Shield Compliance Subscribe to the Cannabiz Media License Database?

Shield Compliance subscribes to the Cannabiz Media License Database for access to reliable industry intelligence and licensing data for the cannabis industry. “We rely on the Cannabiz Media License Database to bring information into our platform,” shares Tony Repanich. “It’s an important part of our license verification process and our licensed data set.”

Thanks to the reliable data in the Cannabiz Media platform, Tony and his team save a significant amount of the time and frustration previously required to find the data they need to do their jobs.

Tony explains, “There are a lot of states that make it very difficult to get information about the licenses they’ve issued and the enforcement actions they’ve undertaken. Where we can get direct state integration to get data, we do that. However, where we need an additional uplift in terms of boots on the street or boots on the phone and keyboard to get the information from states that are more difficult to deal with, we rely on the Cannabiz Media License Database to bring that information into our platform.”

Bottom-line, Tony says, “The Cannabiz Media team has done a great job bringing together that information and having diligence around filling those gaps.”

What’s Next for Shield Compliance?

A big focus for Shield Compliance in the near future is its new onboarding solution. Tony explains, “We brought our new onboarding solution to market at the end of 2020, and it’s really helping our bankers streamline the onboarding process and creating a much better client experience. We’re really excited to get that in front of more bankers this year.”

With more states legalizing cannabis and launching new cannabis programs, Shield Compliance is focusing on future trends and the evolving industry. “We’re having a lot more conversations with bankers that we’ve never talked to in the past, like New York and New Jersey,” Tony shares. “We’re also having a lot more conversations with bankers about their willingness and ability to lend, which is great for the industry.”

When it comes to the bedroom, there are tons of issues that can create a lot of fear, self-consciousness, or an inability to perform. There are also times when people simply want to enhance sexual function or the general experience. With more and more coming out in research and anecdotal evidence, the connection between cannabis and sex has been made evident, with plenty suggesting that cannabis can improve a person’s overall sex life.

Cannabis is popping up all over the place as a way to treat all kinds of problems, and this includes sex issues. But not only can it help with sexual problems, it can also just increase the overall experience. As a form of THC that automatically comes with less anxiety and a more energetic high, delta-8 THC is a great way to get the sexual juices flowing. If you want to see if delta-8 can make your bedroom time even better, check out our awesome delta-8 THC deals, and make your sex life all it can be!

Research into cannabis and sex

There is a lot about the properties of cannabis that indicate it would be beneficial for sexual performance. The idea that it can calm nerves, increase circulation, target free radicals to promote nitric oxide for better erections, and decrease depressive symptoms that might be dampening a sex drive, are all factors that contribute to how cannabis can be used to improve sexual performance.

These days there is tons of research into cannabis and sex. A 2017 study into cannabis use and frequency of sex was put out by Stanford University. The study used surveys through the National Survey of Family Growth, which are cross-sectional surveys covering the whole US. Controls were used for demographics, anthropographics, and socioeconomics. Of the respondents, 28,176 were female, and 22,943 male.

The results of the study showed that in women who smoked monthly, weekly, or daily, frequency of sex was higher than for non-users. For men, weekly and daily users had higher sexual frequency than non-users. For both genders, higher overall cannabis use was correlated to more frequent sexual experiences. And this correlation was across all different demographic groups. The study also indicated that cannabis was not associated with sexual dysfunction.

A look specifically at women, cannabis use, and sex

In 2017, a study was performed called The Perceived Effects of Marijuana Use Before Sex. The study investigators obtained results by way of an anonymous questionnaire that was given out at an academic ObGyn clinic, to women at least 18 years old. The general objective was to determine what women who used cannabis prior to sex, believed would happen to their sexual function by using the cannabis at this time. Specific points of interest were perceived effects to orgasms, overall experience, pain, lubrication, and sex drive.

298 respondents finished the questionnaire, and of them, 33% (96 respondents), used cannabis prior to sex. Out of the 96, 65% (62 respondents) believed that using cannabis before sex led to a better sexual experience, whereas 11% (10 respondents), did not, and 24% (23 respondents) couldn’t give an answer. Of the same 96, 60% (56 respondents) believed cannabis increased their sex drive, 53% (49 respondents) thought that cannabis use before sex made for better orgasms, and 26% (24 respondents) said they had an increase in vaginal lubrication. Of the 96, 14% (13 respondents) has used cannabis before sex specifically for pain, 77% of which (10 respondents) said it helped decrease pain.

Both cannabis users and non-cannabis users in the study reported overall similar results in terms of general health, level of sexual desire, general sexual health, degrees of pain, and orgasm satisfaction. Overall, the study indicates that women who use cannabis prior to sex, have better orgasms, an increase in sex drive, less pain, and an overall better sexual experience. This study found no correlation between cannabis use before sex and sexual dysfunction.

In 2019, yet another study was published called The Relationship between Marijuana Use Prior to Sex and Sexual Function in Women. This study also looked at the anonymous questionnaire results of participants who were all patients of a practice for academics, obstetrics, and gynecology, and investigated the effects of cannabis on libido, arousal, overall satisfaction, and orgasming. The study consisted by 373 respondents, and looked at general levels of satisfaction in sex, as well as specifically looking at how frequent use of cannabis can affect sexual satisfaction.

The results of the study showed that 34% of the respondents used cannabis before sex, and most reported an increase in their sex drive, better orgasms, less associated pain, but no change in lubrication. After adjusting for race, women who smoked cannabis were found to be 2.13 times more likely to report better orgasms, and when race and age were both adjusted for, it was found that women who smoked cannabis frequently, had 2.1 times higher odds of experiencing satisfactory orgasms than those who smoked less frequently.

Overall, the general findings support the ides that cannabis has a positive effect on sexual satisfaction in women. And that more frequent use correlates to more satisfaction.

2020 called A Survey Exploring the Relationship Between Cannabis Use Characteristics and Sexual Function in Men, study investigators examined how cannabis use effects men sexually on different levels. The study respondents included 325 men who visited a specific cannabis dispensary, and the investigators collected information for baseline demographics, medical histories, personal cannabis use habits, and general sexual function using the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF).

The study showed that the average age of the 325 respondents was just under 47, with 19.4% of these men experiencing sexual dysfunction as per the IIEF. Of the respondents, 232 used cannabis at least 6 times/week. When looking at single variables, men with more frequent cannabis usage, had higher IIEF scores, better erectile function, better orgasms, greater intercourse satisfaction, and greater overall sexual satisfaction.

When looking at multiple variables, men who smoked at least 6 times a week had overall higher IIEF scores than their non-smoking counterparts, greater intercourse satisfaction, and greater overall sexual satisfaction. In general, the study pointed to a correlation between greater frequency of cannabis smoking, and better male sexual function, but indicated there might be inconsistencies with clinical significance, even though the study found a positive correlation between higher frequency cannabis use and IIEF scores.

Best cannabis products to improve your sex life

If you’re thinking that you might want to give cannabis a shot to see how it helps with your sex life, there are certainly plenty of options out there. From lubes to massage oils to edibles, there are lots of products on the market to help you in the bedroom. Here are just a few:

  • Apothecanna’s Sexy Time Personal Intimacy Oil. According to the company, “Our uniquely synergistic all-natural blend is formulated with [broad-spectrum] hemp CBD to support your pleasure and sexual wellness. • Foria’s Sex & Intimicy Collection, is an entire line of products put out by the company for use in the bedroom, including vape cartridges, lubricants, massage oils, suppositories, and bath salts. All with cannabis. And all meant to improve your sexual experiences.
  • For those who want to consume their sex-enhancing products in edible form, Kikoko created its Sensuali-Tea, which incorporates low amounts of THC to get the sex drive going. Not only can you enjoy a hot, comforting cup of tea, but you can make your sexual experiences that much better as well.
  • If you want your cannabis-fix to come from your lubricant, there’s Kush Queen’s Water-Based CBD lube. Created for both men and women, this lube is meant to help increase blood flow to the genitals, and is water-based so it can be used with latex condoms.
Love Potion Drops. This THC and CBD edible oil is mixed with other natural herbs like ginseng and passion flower to increase sex drive naturally. Besides all these great benefits, it comes with one of the greatest product names on the market!
  • For ladies who want to increase sexual pleasure, while maintaining vaginal health, there’s Quim’s line of cannabis serums and oils. These oils are specifically formulated to help bring on pleasure, while keeping UTIs and yeast infections at bay.
  • And for those who like their sex and chocolate together, the company 1906 came out with some delicious-looking Love chocolates. These THC and CBD dark milk chocolates were formulated for both a physical and psychological high.

Conclusion

It’s true that there’s still plenty of research to be done on the connection between cannabis and sex, but so far, research and personal experience seem to point in the direction of cannabis being a sexual enhancer for both men and women. If you want to give your sex life a little kick, try using a cannabis product that suits your needs, or if you have sexual medical issues that you think cannabis might help with, please consult a physician (you’re best with a naturopathic doctor) to find out your best options.
