The four-bedroom home has been listed with a price guide of $870,000 to $920,000 – $930,000 less than the suburb’s median house price.

The townhouse does not come with a yard or pool but it does offer a sizeable 263sq m floorplan that, according to selling agent Penny Riggs of Alexander Real Estate, rivals most standard homes.

“The unusual thing about them is that the townhouses are so big,” she said.

“The sheer size blows everyone away when they see how much accommodation there is over the three levels.

“This is the fourth one I’m selling in my time as a real estate agent and every time one comes to the market, they are so popular.

“I think it’s because everyone knows about the Jam Factory and want to live here.”

Established by the South Australian Fruitgrowers’ Co-operative Society Limited, the Jam Factory first opened its doors in 1911 to enable fruitgrowers to get a better price for their produce, and a share in the profits of manufactures.

However, in 1973, under the Dunstan government, the landmark property was converted into a craft training workshop, and subsequently became home to a gallery, shop and artist studios practising glass, ceramics, leather, textiles and jewellery design.

Today, the building is home to 20 apartments and townhouses – all known for their lofty, New York style.

Ms Riggs said 5/167-169 Payneham Rd was no exception, with the three-level townhouse offering something for everyone.
