Brooklyn 99 star Terry Crews will be launching his own cryptocurrency dubbed $POWER which people can own and then spend at local grocery stores so lets’ read more in our latest altcoin news.

Brooklyn 99 star and actor Terry Crews, will launch his own social currency through social crypto platform Roll. He said that the currency is a means to empower artists and his vision for the currency is for people to earn the token by selling art, NFTs, physical goods, and more. The details on the token are vague but according to the project’s website, there will be a cap of 10 million coins. The founders of the project include Michael Pena, Dakota Xentaras and they will “pool the currency onto some mainstream exchanges to determine its initial market offering and reward early $POWER members and adopters.”

The platform that Crews is using to launch his social money raised $2.7 million in funding in late 2020 with more than 300 creators and has already surpassed the $1.5 billion market cap. Powered by Ethereum, Roll will allow individuals to create their own ERC20 tokens to help the creator to get closer to the consumers. There are now44 social currencies on the platform with the most expensive one being $77.62 as it increased 87% in the past day. Crews noted:

 “Owning $POWER is owning a piece of Crews. There’s no other way to put it. And I want to be very careful about who is holding me, no puns intended.”

He is yet to reveal the extent of what this actually means but it is noted that the early token holders will have more access to their team:

 “As an early $POWER member, you’ll have access to our team, and a hand in helping shape the world of $POWER and how it serves artists (read: you) in the digital and physical marketplace.”

“That’s our long-term plan, to become this thing that this community can live and exist in. You could use it anywhere you are — at Target, the grocery store.”

The drive for a new ecosystem comes from the experience he had in Milan, Italy where he was unable to access some of his money through a local bank and to purchase a piece of designed furniture from one artist he said:

 “And I’m watching all these white men and women pass me in line, and they’re looking at me strangely. I’d been standing there for 15 minutes and it slowly dawns on me that because I’m Black, I was not going to get my money. That was the moment I knew everything had to change for me. Bringing it up still makes me angry. What I love about this new world of finance is that cryptocurrency does not know what race you are, how old you are.”
