Apple’s iOS 17 to Warn Against Unsolicited Nude Photos

Date:

Apple has unveiled iOS 17, the latest update to its operating system, with a unique feature that will warn users when someone tries to send them unsolicited nudes.

The update includes other features such as customizable notifications, a redesigned control center, and enhancements to Siri to make “iPhone more personal and intuitive.”

“A new feature, Sensitive Content Warning, helps adult users avoid seeing unwanted nude images and videos,” stated Apple in a blog post.

The tech giant previously unveiled a similar feature to warn children against receiving or attempting to send photos that may contain nudity back in April.

Additionally, the first trillion-dollar company has now expanded the feature to adult users too.

“As with Communication Safety, all image and video processing for Sensitive Content Warning occurs on-device, so Apple does not get access to the content,” reads the blog post.

Apple unveiled its latest operating system, iOS 17, along with Vision Pro, its new mixed-reality headset.

Apple remains dedicated to privacy and safety by extending the Communication Safety feature beyond Messages, as emphasized in their blog post.

The extension now aids in safeguarding children while sharing content through AirDrop, Contact Posters, FaceTime messages, and when utilizing the Photos picker for content selection.

“It also expands to cover video content in addition to still images,” stated Apple.

New features: Journal and StandBy

The new iOS 17 also introduces two exciting new features: Journal and StandBy. With Journal, users can reflect through personalized journaling, supported by on-device machine learning.

“With iOS 17, we’ve made iPhone more personal and intuitive by deeply considering the features we all rely on every day,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering.

It provides suggestions based on recent activities, making it easy to start a journal entry. Journal ensures privacy and encryption of entries, offering a secure and personal experience.

On the other hand, StandBy offers a full-screen, glanceable information display when the iPhone is charging on its side.

“StandBy is perfect on a nightstand, kitchen counter, or desk, and can be personalized to display a range of beautiful clock styles, favorite photos, or widgets, including Smart Stacks, which surface the right widgets at the right time,” reads the blog post.

StandBy transforms the iPhone experience by effortlessly integrating Live Activities, Siri, incoming calls, and larger notifications, making it incredibly useful even from a distance, indicates Apple.

Check In feature in the message

Apple has also introduced the Check In safety feature.

“Messages also introduces Check In, an important feature for when a user wants to notify a family member or friend that they have made it to their destination safely,” stated Apple.

After a user initiates a Check In, their friend or family member will automatically be notified as soon as the user arrives, claims the company.

“If they are not making progress towards their destination, useful information will be temporarily shared with the selected contact, such as the device’s location, battery level, and cell service status,” reads the blog post.

‘Really cool AirDrop’

One of the new features in iOS 17 is the new Airdrop feature.

The latest AirDrop update involves a novel gesture that allows you to share information by bringing your phones together.

This gesture essentially involves bumping the phones together to exchange contact details.

“We’ve also reimagined AirDrop with new ways to share; autocorrect gets even better; and we’re introducing all-new experiences with Journal and StandBy, plus so much more. We can’t wait for everyone to try it,” said Federighi.

This feature is being market as a time-saver; useful in scenarios such as meeting new people, attending business conferences, or when you want to quickly share contact information in person.

“The proximity-AirDrop explosion effect in iOS 17 is ridiculously cool,” wrote a Twitter user.
