While most of the community had its attention turned to BTC and its skyrocketing highs, one ancient NFT project flew under the radar. One of the oldest sets of digital collectibles that were contracted on the Ethereum blockchain was rediscovered and snatched by a few crypto hoarders in a few hours. Nobody has heard of MoonCats until yesterday when one Twitter user @ETHoard tweeted and started digging around with the hashtag #MoonCatRescue.”

According to the data from Etherscan, the abandoned MoonCatRescue project dates all the way to 2017 which according to the Twitter user makes it the second oldest NFT on Ethereum after CryptoPunks and one behind CryptoKitties. In the world of crypto-collectibles, these factors like historical significance and scarcity affect the desirability of an NFT. With a maximum cap of 25,600 pixelated cat NFTs, this project fulfills the criteria for a potential NFT goldmine.

Nonfungible tokens are just like other collectibles but they are digital. Thanks to the Ethereum blockchain one-way cryptography, NFTs are scarce and unique. this lets people exchange digital items easily. People have been going crazy for NFTs lately and this week we saw the artist Beeple who sold a digital artwork for $69.3 million. With NFT collectibles reaching six or seven-digit figures in online marketplaces, more people are coming on board with the new technology and are hoarding NFTs hoping to attain value in the future.

The MoonCatRescue.com page has long been defunct, the fans decided to manually interact with the contract using Etherscan to rescue the cats. The only cost for rescuing a MoonCat was the one of an ETH transaction fee to mine it. Later, we saw the platform surging to second place on the list of accounts with the highest transaction fees on the network that day. in order to make the project sellable on various marketplaces, token rescuers have to wrap their NFTs for a fee of $200.

According to the website, the project was developed by a team called Ponderware who remained silent since 2017. However, they wrote today:
