ONE property boasts a rare Yarra River frontage. The other offers the simple country life in Tasmania, with possible business opportunities.

One property is positioned in Toorak, an exclusive suburb where the median house price is about $5.8m.

The other is home to some 400 residents, and in a year would record too few transactions from which to generate a median.

One is aimed at kings and queens with an eye for a grand project, while the other has a starting price below half a million.

What do these contrasting listings have in common?

The pair topped the national charts on realestate.com.au for the most-viewed properties of the week.

Perhaps surprisingly, it was the 141-year-old Tassie church that snatched the crown.

As of Wednesday morning, its first week on the market attracted 27,640 views on the property website.

The Toorak opportunity — which comes with approved plans for a luxurious cruiseliner-inspired five-level mansion and hopes of a $10.5m-$11.5m sale — reached 11,765 views.

Senior agent at EIS Property, Deb Stephens, said they have been “inundated with phone calls and emails regarding this property”.

“We had an open home there on Saturday just gone, which attracted a good number of people, particularly Tasmanians,” she said.

“The church is open 9am-4pm each day, so people can go up and look at their own leisure as well.”

Mrs Stephens said Ross’ former home of the Uniting Church in Australia has attracted a good mix of inquiries from Tasmanians and people located interstate.

“Some people have already travelled to look at it first hand, and some say they will make the track down soon.”

No.52a-54 Church St, Ross will be sold via expressions of interest over $450,000.

“Offers have started to come in this week, as we expected,” Mrs Stephens said.

The 1882-built church is Heritage Listed.

It has polished floorboards throughout most of the building, an octagonal spire, Tasmanian blackwood pews, a gabled slate roof, Horton window and stained glass windows.

The property’s Community Purpose zoning allows for a number of potential uses, including emergency services, community meeting and entertainment, education, business and professional services, food, general retail, residential, or a tourist operation. Some will require permits and will be open to objection.
