Week Ahead: UAW Leadership Vote, Barra Speaks, CES Looming

Date:

There’s going to be plenty of variety this week, starting with an update on the UAW’s first-ever one-person, one-vote election.

GM CEO Mary Barra will be meeting with the Automotive Press Association for a fireside chat.

About 1 million active members and retirees were eligible to vote — the first time they’ve been able to directly vote for candidates. The change appears to be benefitting the reform-minded segments of the union who wanted it.

Early returns suggest the old guard candidates are in trouble, including incumbent President Ray Curry, who looks to be headed for a run off, sources tell TheDetroitBureau.com.

On Thursday, Dec. 8, General Motors CEO Mary Barra meets with the Automotive Press Association for its Christmas fireside chat in Detroit for the second consecutive year.

During the session, she’ll likely be peppered with questions about everything from the company’s coming EVs to its Cruise and BrightDrop subsidiaries to her expectations for 2023.

However, we expect one of the first questions will be some version of “So … a Corvette SUV … really?”

We’ll also be keeping an ear to the ground about potential news about the Consumer Electronics Show in January. Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares is delivering a keynote address and a few vehicles are making a full debut show so as additional news breaks, we’ll be certain to pass it along.
