The U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has requested a subscription to use Chainalysis’s Blockchain Analytics Tools to step up its blockchain transaction surveillance efforts. The primary purpose of the software acquisition is so that the U.S. government and foreign agencies can collaborate into investigating money laundering and terrorist financing.

On May 26, The United States Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sent out a new public notice stating its intention to subscribe to Chainalysis’s Blockchain Analytics Tools.

The requested software will be used to analyze and track virtual currency transactions by investigators in the Office of Global Targeting (OGT) for collecting the “Specially Designated Nationals And Blocked Person’s List” (SDN) list.

The Chainalysis Rumker software suite includes Observations and Nodes that could help OFAC locate where server nodes are running. Featuring the Wasabi Demixing tools, this will allow the agency to access cryptographic information on previously obfuscated transactions.

OFAC first put out a call for blockchain analytics tools earlier this month, having made a prior request on May 4 requesting for address clustering capabilities, wallet explorer tool, transaction flow mapping, and analysis of user behavior and market data.

Apparently, OFAC could use the service for as long as the next five years with the notice citing a base period beginning from July 15 to July 14 of 2022 with the final expiry date for July 14, 2026.
