Dying Light 2’s 4 player co-op detailed and cross-gen console comparisons revealed

With Dying Light 2 Stay Human out next month, Techland has released the final Dying 2 Know video and detailed some more key parts of the upcoming open world zombie game. In particular, this video details the co-op features and gives us a first comparison between the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S generation and the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One generation. You’ll have to wade through a fair bit of saccharine fluff to get there, but here’s the gist: The game can be played and finished in up to four player co-op, just as the original was. While there is a host player who has the main progression and world state, those joining the session will keep their gear, their player progression and so on. It’s not entirely dependent on the host player, though. At narrative forks in the road, all players in a co-op session will be able to vote on the choice (the host having the casting vote, though). Skip to the 6 minute mark and you get to check out the game running on older consoles. This shows the game captures on PlayStation 4, Xbox One X, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Disappointingly, this comparison is windowed in a way that makes meaningful comparison very difficult, though you do get a feel for the performance jump between generations. The game is going to be absolutely massive, with Techland recently proclaiming that it would take 500 hours to fully complete. There was a considerable backlash with many pointing out that 500 hours was just ridiculous so they added another tweet, “500 hours is related to maxing out the game – finishing all the quests, endings, and exploring every part of the world, but a regular player should finish the story + side quests and do quite a lot of exploring in less than 100 hours, so don’t worry!” Thankfully, considering that even that is crazily huge, they have clarified again to say that finishing the main story, which is what most players are interested in, will take 20 hours. How long are you planning on spending in the game? And will you have some friends coming on the journey with you?

Gran Turismo 7 gameplay trailer heads to the Daytona International Speedway

A new gameplay trailer has been released for Gran Turismo 7, showcasing live gameplay, the replay mode and the Daytona International Speedway which is returning to the series after skipping GT Sport. Gran Turismo 7 will be out on 4th March 2022 for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. The gameplay in the trailer is all captured from the PS5 version of the game, and exclusively from the cockpit view available for the cars. It’s a really nice looking slice of gameplay with some lovely lighting as the sun hangs low in the sky, though this is without any ray tracing effects, which are reserved for the Garage and Scapes modes. This allows the gameplay to run at 60fps, while the replay mode cuts things back down to 30fps and seeks to fill the environments with more graphical detail. We don’t know how big a step there is between the PS4 and PS5 version of the game in action just yet, though 60fps gameplay is the target across the board. Gameplay trailers are a welcome glimpse of what the game will offer after Sony and Polyphony Digital’s more aspirational series of videos from the last few months of 2021, in which series creator Kazunori Yamauchi waxed lyrical about the various improvements that it would offer and the goals of the game. One such area was about trying to capture a “tangible” level of realism. That tangible feel really comes from the DualSense controller more than anything, with Polyphony Digital looking to put their own spin on the haptic feedback and adaptive trigger use that we’ve seen in other racing games on PS5. In particular, he details recreating the feel of braking so that the resistance on the trigger disappears if you lock up, giving you an immediate understanding that you need to release and reapply the brakes. Gran Turismo 7 is coming out for PS5 and PS4 on 4th March 2022, in what was a surprise cross-generational release considering the manner of the game’s original announcement. The PS4 version obviously doesn’t support ray tracing or the DualSense controller, but it will be fascinating to see how close the experience comes in terms of graphics on the PS4 Pro, and when racing using a racing wheel peripheral. If you want to upgrade from PS4 to PS5, you’ll be able to pay the $10 difference to do so.
