The Cannabis Regulatory Commission (CRC) announced that 500 people filed their application within the first four hours the CRC website was opened. CRC executive director, Jeff Brown, said the form was generating 155 users per hour by 1 p.m on that same day. By the end of the day, more than 600 accounts were created on the CRC website.

Last month, the University of Michigan released their annual Monitoring the Future survey which shows a dramatic year-on-year decrease among teen’s use of cannabis – as well as other controlled substances. They found a 33% reduction among 8th graders’ reported cannabis use, 38% drop among 10th graders, and 13% drop among 12th graders. “The percentage of students who reported using marijuana (in all forms, including smoking and vaping) within the past year decreased significantly for eighth, 10th, and 12th grade students,” write the authors.

The scariest part going forward for the legal weed industry is that accessibility will increase forever, or until it is no longer economically viable to be an illegal cannabis grower and seller. When we get to the point where illegal growers are throwing in the towel, what happens to the legal version of those businesses that have to pay taxes, overhead, fees, licenses, etc.? They will be gone before the illicit guys as margin compression will force only the lean businesses models to survive.
Hector Balderas, New Mexico Attorney General, announced on Monday that the state's Eagle Federal Credit Union is the first financial institution in the United States to be accredited for outstanding monetary banking protocols in cannabis and hemp operations in the United States. This accreditation is one of the many financial services certification programs organized by the Policy Center for Public Health and Safety. The center is co-run by New Mexico's State Attorney General, while ASTM International and PH & S are in charge of implementing a more comprehensive certification effort.
