We've been seeing some rumours flying around lately that Sony is preparing to hold a fresh State of Play — or some sort of PlayStation update, anyway — in March. The trouble is there are almost always a few people claiming something of this nature is just around the corner, and it can be hard to discern who genuinely has reliable information behind their claims. However, the rumour mill surrounding this supposed showcase just won't go away.
In fact, Gamereactor just published a post earlier today, claiming several anonymous sources have affirmed Sony will hold a showcase very soon indeed. According to multiple "very reliable" sources, as well as another from outside PlayStation, the company has been planning to put on a State of Play (or some other showcase) the week commencing 7th March 2022 — this week.
Horizon Forbidden West is the latest from Sony's internal studios, and as you might expect, it includes a few shoutouts to other PlayStation franchises. One such homage is a quest to find a series of God of War Easter eggs, with the ultimate reward of a Kratos-inspired look for Aloy.
Scattered around the world you can find a ton of collectibles, including three special totems. Those resemble Kratos, the dwarven forge brothers Brok and Sindri, and Atreus, respectively. Okay, it's technically four totems, but Brok and Sindri are a matched set found in the same location. Once you've found all three-ish totems you'll unlock a new face paint pattern called the Mark of War, which looks awfully familiar. You can consult our in-depth Horizon Forbidden West totems guide for details on where to find them.

These are based on the new God of War series, which is based in Norse mythology. The new continuity comes sometime after the old series, though exactly when and how Kratos left for a snowier environment isn't clear. The sequel, God of War Ragnarok, is slated for release in 2022. Sony Santa Monica, the studio behind the new God of War, was among the developers who gave Guerrilla a congrats message on launch day for Horizon.
Horizon Forbidden West is out now – check our Horizon Forbidden West guide – and Gran Turismo 7 is right around the hairpin bend, which means Sony’s attention will eventually have to transition to God of War Ragnarok. The title’s largely been kept undercover to allow PlayStation to focus its attention on the aforementioned PlayStation 5 and PS4 exclusives, but with few other titles in the organisation’s immediate pipeline, the spotlight will need to shift eventually.
Some fans have pondered, however, whether Kratos and Atreus’ adventure will even arrive in 2022 as planned. As part of an innocuous post on Reddit’s Gaming Leaks and Rumours community, one fan pondered whether the title could be pushed back – but respected Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier parachuted in with a one word answer, “Nope.”
