Uncharted Is One of the Highest Grossing Video Game Movies of All Time

Warcraft still unbeaten, though.

As the cinematic run for Uncharted nears its conclusion, PlayStation Productions has to be happy with its first effort. According to The Numbers, the film has pulled around $339 million in ticket sales worldwide, making it the fifth highest grossing video game movie of all time. It’s unlikely to catch the likes of Warcraft or Detective Pikachu, but it could yet creep past The Angry Birds Movie, which sits at around $352 million.

Sony Pictures recently indicated that the adaptation represented the beginning of a “new hit movie franchise” for the firm, but a sequel has yet to be announced – even though a post-credits scene appears to set one up. The organisation is also working on other big screen adaptations of PlayStation properties, including Ghost of Tsushima.

Bandai Namco announces rerelease of PS3 Jojo fighting game, titled All Star Battle R

Jojo All Star Battle R rerelease JolyneIt only makes sense that Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure would receive a number of video game adaptations considering the sheer popularity of both the original manga series and anime. Although the Capcom-developed arcade fighting game released in 1998 probably still stands as the best of these adaptations, the more recent Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle still has its merits — at least from an aesthetic standpoint. As a fighting game, it feels far too clunky and unwieldy. But as a piece of fan service, it mostly succeeds. Fortunately for Jojo fans who missed out on this game when it came out, Bandai Namco just announced an updated rerelease of the title, dubbed Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R, during today’s PlayStation State of Play presentation. According to Bandai Namco’s official website, All Star Battle R serves as “the biggest game ever in the franchise.” Whereas the original release capped out at 41 playable charac...

Amazon Primed for Live Action God of War TV Series

Kratos is coming to the small screen.

Amazon Prime Video is on the cusp of signing a live action television adaptation of God of War, a Deadline report claims. PlayStation Productions – the new movie and TV subsidiary of Sony’s gaming division – has been busy lately, bringing Uncharted to the big screen, and also beginning work on The Last of Us and Twisted Metal adaptations. And it looks like God of War is next in line.

Deadline says that Amazon Prime Video is in negotiations for the series, which will be helmed by The Expanse’s Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby and The Wheel of Time executive producer Rafe Judkins. Sony Pictures Television will also be involved, while Amazon Studios will likely co-produce, assuming the deal goes through.

Tom Holland’s Uncharted Movie Strikes Gold As Box Office Total Crosses $225 Million

X marks the spot.

Sony has already described Uncharted as a “new hit movie franchise”, but there was still scepticism among some of our readers over whether Tom Holland’s take on Nathan Drake had been truly successful. As of last week, the movie had made back its production budget, but many wondered whether it could continue to pull in audiences.

Well, the film grossed a further $35 million worldwide this weekend, taking its global total up to $226.4 million overall. This, ultimately, has been a terrific cinematic run for the film, and makes it one of the top grossing video game movie adaptations of all-time. It’s unlikely it will dethrone the likes of Warcraft and Detective Pikachu, but it won’t be far off when all’s said and done.
