AT&T’s global wireless network now supports connected walking cane: CAN Go, by CAN Mobilities. The collaboration between CAN Mobilities and AT&T expands the accessibility of this innovative smart cane to the benefit of many Americans who have difficulty walking, their caregivers, and their loved ones.

The CAN Go Smart Cane provides more than traditional mobility assistance. It allows users, family members and caregivers to stay connected in the event assistance is needed. It can also help to allay the safety concerns shared by those with mobility limitations and their loved ones and caregivers.

Benefits include:

  • Ergonomic design to improve safety for users
  • Fall detection functionality with GPS
  • Built-in phone for emergency calls – no need to carry other devices
  • High-quality speakers and embedded microphone so users can hear and be heard
  • Embedded flashlight

“We wanted to make it as easy as possible for all who need to use a walking cane to stay in touch with their caregivers and loved ones at home and on the go, without the need for a separate calling device,” said Ahmad AlGhazi, a CEO of CAN Mobilities. “We expect our collaboration with AT&T will empower users of CAN Go with reliable wireless connectivity to help improve their safety and connection to loved ones in the event of an emergency or when in need of human connection.”

According to estimates from the Census Bureau’s 2021 American Community Survey, about 7% of Americans report having serious ambulatory difficulties – struggling with walking or climbing stairs. Adults ages 75 and older and those ages 65 to 74 are the most likely to report having this kind of disability (30% and 15%, respectively), but there are also 8.8 million adults between the ages of 18 and 64 reporting ambulatory challenges according to the data.

“With our experience in healthcare, we truly understand how connection can help reimagine health and change lives, and we want to help those who face daily challenges because of limited mobility,” said Joe Drygas, a vice president of government, education and medical at AT&T. “By connecting CAN Go to the AT&T wireless network, we’re helping to improve the lives of those with mobility challenges and providing peace of mind for their caregivers and loved ones.”
