June 12, Colombo: Sri Lanka Navy today seized a stock of Kerala cannabis attempted to transfer ashore by sea routes during a special operation carried out at Kusumanthurai beach area in Jaffna.

During a routine patrol in the northern seas, naval personnel of Northern Naval Command, had observed some individuals carrying suspicious sacks withdrawn from a dinghy landed ashore. However, when the naval personnel on patrol reaching to that location, the dinghy had escaped.

By further search into the sacks, 25 parcels of Kerala cannabis weighing about 57 kg were found and were taken into naval custody.

The Navy has launched a special operation in that sea area in search of the escaped drug traffickers.

Sri Lanka Navy is conducting frequent patrols to curb the illegal drug trafficking attempts through sea routes.
