Masahiro Sakurai is reportedly considering an early retirement, according to a translation of his latest column in Famitsu.

The creator of Kirby and the Super Smash Bros. series wrote about life after game development, saying the idea of retiring early could appeal to him, according to snippets of the column published by a frequent and accurate reporter of his column, the Japanese blog ryokutya2089, and translated by VGC.

“Everything must come to an end,” Sakurai reportedly writes, saying that for now he feels “it’s better to stay busy and do my best, as long as I can put up with it.”

He also reportedly discusses ending his Famitsu column once the next Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC is released later this year, though he reportedly says that decision “doesn’t mean I’ll stop working on games.” He has written his Famitsu column since the early 2000s.

A full translation of Sakurai’s column is expected later this week.

Sakurai’s commitment to his work has often verged on the self-destructive, even by his own admission. He’s previously talked about using an IV drip when sick to continue working on Ultimate and avoid taking time off. In a column from last year, he also said he’d passed out during a trip to the gym because of exhaustion and dehydration.

Sakurai has previously said his current project, the next Ultimate DLC Fighters, will be the last DLC for the game.
