Rhythmatic Leaves Beta Tomorrow for Worldwide Arcade Launch

Date:

Virtual reality (VR) arcades have taken a big hit this year but there have been plenty of studios supporting them with new content. One of those is Blackwall Labs which launched a beta version of its rhythm-action title Rhythmatic in June. Today, the studio has announced the official launch will be taking place tomorrow as well as what’s to come.

Rhythmatic

The last few months have seen Blackwall Labs test 20 builds of the videogame at arcades worldwide ahead of its December release. Offering an energetic multiplayer experience where up to six players can either compete in a battlemode or enjoy team-based co-op gameplay.

Gameplay should be familiar to anyone into VR rhythm-action videogames as players have to slice orbs in the correct direction in time to the music. Where Rhythmatic turns the gameplay up a notch is with powerups such as instant multipliers or shields to help your scores whilst negative effects can be inflicted on opponents – ideal for gaining the upper hand in multiplayer.

Of course, no reputable rhythm-action experience would be complete without a serious selection of tracks to choose from. The initial launch will have eight covering genres like Rock and Dubstep, from artists DJ Phantasy, Skylah, WYR Gemi, Samuel Vasell, Vik Toreus, Tuesday Syndicate, Mother Vulture and Finger Thoughts.

As for future plans, Blackwall Labs will be releasing more tracks in the coming weeks plus the multiplayer will get an upgrade to 12 players, allowing for 6 vs 6 competitions.

To mark tomorrow’s launch the studio will be having an arcade competition where one location will have the chance to win a year’s free license for up to six stations. With global leaderboards included, all they need to do is set a high score on the hard setting for WYR Gemi’s ‘Roadgang’.

And as a tempting offer for location-based entertainment (LBE) venues, Blackwall Labs is offering Rhythmatic at a competitive price, priced at 6c p/m.  It’ll be available through distribution platforms like SpringboardVR and SynthesisVR.

Rhythmatic is currently exclusive to arcades but Blackwall Labs may bring the title to home headsets in the future. For further updates, keep reading VRFocus.
