Renegades claim PGL Stockholm Major slot for Oceania

Date:

Wins over VERTEX in the opening round and LookingForOrg in the upper bracket final ensured Renegades at least a top-two finish at IEM Fall 2021 Oceania which combined with their previous strong results sees Joshua “INS” Potter and co. stamp their ticket for the Major in Sweden.

Renegades are the fourth team to qualify for the Major — following Natus Vincere, Spirit, and Gambit —, with the Australians set to attend the event as “Contenders” and start the competition in the first stage of play.

Renegades have not skipped a beat since INS took over IGL duties

Renegades finished the 2020 RMR cycle as the best team in their region, which awarded them 100 points at the start of the new cycle. In May, a win at EPIC League Oceania extended their lead, with the IEM Fall qualifier results putting them out of reach of anyone but ORDER before the main event even started.

Ricardo “Rickeh” Mulholland‘s team had to outplace Renegades‘ by two spots to make up the point difference at IEM Fall and steal away the Major spot, but with Renegades reaching the grand final, that is no longer a possibility.

In addition to qualifying for the Major, the IEM Fall results see Renegades claim the Oceania spot at IEM Katowice 2022 as well, which together with their ESL Pro league Conference slot secured in September amounts to three overseas trips coming up for the Australian side.
