Krafton has revealed that players won’t have to wait that long to see the next evolution of the PUBG series. It seems that there will be a PUBG New State alpha test soon that will allow the first group of players to check out this official sequel to the current PUBG Mobile.
PUBG New State Alpha Test Announced
We already knew that New State would be the new game in the series that follows up after PUBG Mobile and offers a new take on the battle royale formula, but we weren’t sure when exactly that would be. Instead, we just had a vague release window that would be coming sometime this year.
Now, the official New State Twitter account has posted something enlightening about just how close this game will be. I was happy they announced that a PUBG New State alpha test will be happening fairly soon.
The alpha test will only be open to certain players from certain regions worldwide, and it will only be for a limited time. But the best part about this whole situation is that it’s close. Players will only have to wait up to two months or so for this alpha to happen.
Unfortunately, no exact release date was given for the PUBG New State alpha test, but we know a pretty broad window of time in which it will happen. Fortunately, that window of time is going on right now, so we could quite literally have it any day now.
When the Alpha Test Will Take Place
Krafton noted that the PUBG New State alpha test would happen during the second quarter of this current year. For those who don’t know, the second quarter occurs from April 2021 to June 2021. It encompasses a total span of three months.
Fortunately, we are right at the beginning of the second quarter, meaning that it will happen within the next two and a half months or so. It could be in June, it could be in May, or it could even be in this current month of April but later on.
But given that Krafton didn’t give a specific month for the alpha test window, we imagine it isn’t too close to now. We expect the release window to not be this month at all, so your best bet will be next month in May or even June.
Worse than that, though, this will be a pretty limited alpha test in a couple of different ways. For one, it’s an alpha, meaning that the game is potentially not even in the beta stage of development at this time. Though test builds are usually a few months old, it could indicate that the game will only be in the early beta phases by the time the alpha drops.
Test Will Have Limited Regions
Typically when it comes to alpha tests, they are extremely limited since the game is in active development and could be for several more months after the test, if not for years later. The Twitter account even noted that this test would be in only a limited number of regions, emphasizing the limited part in all capital letters.
This tells us that there will be more than one region where the test will take place, but the test will be a very limited set of regions. Furthermore, we take this to mean that those of us in the U.S. will likely not be selected for this regional test as that would potentially be way too many players.
Again, typically with cases like this, the alpha tests will happen in a region where the player count will be less than somewhere like the U.S. This is why we have had alpha tests in the past for games in places like Canada and Singapore, where the population is less than the bigger locations.
If this alpha test happens, we imagine that it will happen somewhere like South Korea, where most of the players are located. Though the PUBG fans’ population is high there, it can still be limited to only so many thousand or so players at one time.
New State Is Still Scheduled for This Year
For now, players will have to stay tuned for more info about the PUBG New State alpha test as we know nothing else about it, including the game modes or maps that will be available then. And, worse still, we still don’t know the game’s release date for much of the world.
The account even noted this, stating that there is no release date for the main game at this time, but it’s still coming out this year worldwide. This is good news as it seems likely that we will still see New State sometime this year but, if we had to guess, it would be much later on.
Given that we are just getting news of an alpha test, we don’t expect to see a beta test of the game until a couple of months after that. If the developer releases the game in an early access open beta format, that could speed up the release for everyone.
But, if not, we don’t expect the full release of the mobile battle royale title on Android and iOS until late this year. We know about New State at this time because it’s a sequel of sorts to PUBG Mobile that will have great graphics and take place in a near future setting.
There will be more advanced weapons and locations for players to explore as they and their squad fight to be the last one standing at the end of the match. The PUBG community seems very excited for this release as it already has well over 10 million preorders on the Google Play Store alone, not counting the iOS side of things.
Cloud9 give boost to MSI 2021 rumble stage hopes with much-needed victory over DWG KIA
The very first game of the 2021 Mid-Season Invitational saw Cloud9 fall at the feet of DWG KIA in a lopsided fashion. But today, in the climactic rematch, C9 found the win over DWG in a 45-minute thriller.
Last week, DWG took down C9 in 27 minutes, earning a convincing victory to open up their MSI 2021 run. At the 27-minute mark during today’s game, though, it was dead even with the two squads taking an extremely close contest into the late game. The game remained locked in a back-and-forth state for 10 more minutes until C9 found a breakthrough teamfight to blow the game open for good. A four-for-zero effort resulted in a Mountain Soul and Baron power play for C9, setting the team up for a late-game push that ended with all three of DWG’s inhibitors going down.
Despite DWG’s best efforts, the team couldn’t find any sort of window of capitalization. Normally, DWG KIA find their strengths at the back end of a game, “flipping a switch” and turning tied games into one-sided affairs within seconds. During the LCK playoffs, four of the six games that DWG played in saw the team come from behind and overcome a gold deficit. Today, the LCK champs weren’t able to find that turnaround moment to bring them a victory in the final moments of the game.
Largely, C9 secured this victory through their solo laners. Fudge and Perkz played far better today than they did against DWG on day one. Fudge, in particular, posted a scoreline of 10/3/6 on Lee Sin—a champion he had never played before in his professional career.
With this win, C9 set themselves up for a run to the rumble stage throughout the course of the day. They only have games against Infinity Esports and Detonation FocusMe left on their schedule for the day. C9 posted a 1-1 record against those two squads during the first half of the round robin and will look for at least one more win to close out the day and have a chance to qualify for the next stage. If C9 manage to take both games, a trip to the MSI 2021 rumble stage should be a practical lock.

Tony Hawk joins GameSquare Esports in special advisory role
GameSquare Esports is expanding its advisory team by bringing in skateboarding legend and entrepreneur Tony Hawk.
Hawk, who’s best known in the gaming space for his Tony Hawk Pro Skater video game franchise, will act as a special advisor to CEO Justin Kenna and the GameSquare group of companies while they work to further “bridge the gap” between global brands and the gaming and esports communities.
“We are humbled that Tony is willing to share his experiences in business, entertainment, sports, video games, and digital media with our leadership team as we grow GameSquare into an iconic esports company,” Kenna said. “We have incredible people with amazing professional experience, and I look forward to working with Tony to accelerate our growth and our progress. Tony bridges the gap between brands and fans in an authentic way and has been doing it successfully, and with integrity, for decades.”
GameSquare is likely most known for acquiring U.K.-based esports talent agency Code Red Esports and operating the Gaming Community Network, a digital media company that focuses on facilitating and promoting partnerships in gaming and esports.
Hawk is the founder of his own skateboarding, lifestyle clothing, and sporting goods brands. He’s helped build more than 600 public skateparks across the U.S. with his charitable foundation, The Skateboard Project. Hawk will share his own experience in working between multiple industries with the growing GameSquare group.
“GameSquare is an innovator in esports, and I’m already impressed with what Justin and his team are building,” Hawk said. “Esports and video games are bigger than ever, so it’s paramount for companies to authentically connect great brands with hardcore fans. Throughout my career, I have understood that perseverance, creativity, and self-confidence are critical to success. I look forward to sharing my own experience and my approach to success with the GameSquare team.”
GameSquare is seeking to acquire additional assets that can be put to work in gaming and esports markets while also working inside of more traditional sports and entertainment—and will now do so with the added experience of Hawk.
Next-gen PlayStation VR reportedly features 4K display, eye tracking, and vibration
Sony’s next-gen virtual reality headset for the PlayStation 5 includes a 4K display, inside-out eye-tracking, a vibration motor, and other exciting new features, according to a report by UploadVR.
The headset, which hasn’t been named, features a 4000×2040 pixels (2000×2040 per eye) resolution, a lens separation adjustment dial, and gaze tracking capable of foveated rending, “reliable sources” told UploadVR.
The motor in the headset can also be used by developers to incorporate direct haptic feedback, making this a huge step up from the previous model.
Sony confirmed the development of a new VR headset for the PS5 earlier this year. But aside from images of a controller with analog sticks, finger position sensing, and resistive triggers that can “push back at your fingers when pressed,” the company has remained radio silent about the headset.
In terms of its competition (if the report is valid), the headset would have a slightly lower resolution than the HP Reverb G2, which is considered the market leader in VR headset resolution, but slightly more than the Oculus Quest 2, a household name.
The headset is expected to be released “sometime” after 2021. But nothing has been confirmed yet.
Race Manager device introduced in Fortnite Creative v16.40 update
Epic Games released the v16.40 update for Fortnite Creative today, giving players the ability to create racing games with the Race Manager device.
The Race Manager device comes after Epic added Joyride vehicles and the Race Checkpoint device in its v16.20 update in April. The new tool allows players to track and display the number of completed laps, race times, and their best time. The Race Manager device also gives players the ability to create new game types such as Time Trials and multiplayer circuit-style tournaments, according to the devs.
Aside from the Race Manager device, the v16.40 update for Fortnite Creative brings new summer-themed content in which creators can play with boats or use the Fishing Zone and the Surfboard, a completely new item. You can create boat races, a fishing competition, or a surfboard trick course.
The v16.40 Creative update also includes some gameplay, island, item, and UI bug fixes, which you can read more about below:
- Fixed an issue where players were not able to rapidly edit with a blueprint out.
- Made a material adjustment to all Grid Islands to improve the visual clarity of grid lines and surface area. The new flat material has less noise compared to the older concrete material and projects less light reflections.
- Removed the older Flat Grid Hub, Floating Island Hub, and Grassy Hill Hub from the Island Create Menu since we have shifted to a new hub and portal layout.|
Device and items
- Fixed an issue where the Health Powerup device did not fully drop to the floor when enlarged.
- Fixed an issue where the Baller’s Grappler pulled vehicles towards the Baller instead of the other way round.
- Fixed an issue where “Details” and “Back” buttons overlapped in the Creative Inventory.
- Fixed an issue where the Recent Islands list did not update.
