Nintendo issues statement on DMCA given to Dolphin Steam release

Date:

The team behind the Dolphin emulator has been forced to indefinitely postpone its release on Steam following a DMCA notice. In a statement, Nintendo explained why it went after the listing.

Kotaku grabbed a statement from the company which states that the emulator “illegally circumvents Nintendo’s protection measures and runs illegal copies of games.” Further mentioned, “Using illegal emulators or illegal copies of games harms development and ultimately stifles innovation.”

The full statement reads:

“Nintendo is committed to protecting the hard work and creativity of video game engineers and developers. This emulator illegally circumvents Nintendo’s protection measures and runs illegal copies of games. Using illegal emulators or illegal copies of games harms development and ultimately stifles innovation. Nintendo respects the intellectual property rights of other companies, and in turn expects others to do the same.”

For what it’s worth, the Dolphin team said it’s looking into different options after receiving the DMCA. We have more information about the situation here.
