The official Marvel announcement shared that the comic company has signed on to sell digital collectibles on VeVe. The VeVe app allows fans of many well-known brands to purchase items via in-app currency known as gems. The NFTs are available for purchase from either the official company store or from another user on the platform. Currently, VeVe has similar deals to sell NFTs from brands such as DC Comics, Star Trek, Ghost Busters, Jurassic Park, and Back to the Future.

The NFT collectibles for Marvel-related characters will launch within the next couple of months and marks the first official move from marvel to offer such digital collectibles. Fans will be able to not only buy, but also interact with things like 3D statues of their favorite characters and digital comic books.

Not only will users be able to purchase NFTs in the traditional sense, but also can hunt down rare collectibles along with enjoying custom virtual showrooms to display collections within the metaverse. The app allows users to navigate these virtual showrooms in a first-person view on mobile or upload them to an augmented reality program and do the rounds on foot.

VeVe has reportedly sold nearly 600,000 NFT digital collectibles since December to its 350,000 active users.

Marvel looking for new ways to sell collectibles

While Marvel movies and comic books are the brand’s bread and butter, the sale of toys and collectibles is a big contributor. Marvel said that it had been exploring how to take some of the collectibles and bring them into the digital space to and make the ownership experience as special as physical ownership. Dan Buckley, Entertainment President at Marvel stated that “Since the beginning, collecting has always gone hand in hand with being a Marvel fan. Like us, VeVe understands collecting is about the experience just as much as the product, and we look forward to extending that experience for our fans over the years to come.”

The release goes on to state that Marvel is hoping to expand the limits of what being a Marvel fan means and what unique options the company can offer.

Marvel says that fans can “expect a rich collecting experience” that introduces interactive statues and super rare digital comics that can be framed and displayed. So far, no specific details on what the NFTs will be or when exactly they will be on sale.
