French postal service company La Poste has installed a fitting room in two of its post offices in Paris. It wants to install fitting rooms in seven of its branches in total. With this experiment, customers can try on their online orders immediately after collection.
According to La Poste, many consumers pick up their parcels from the post office only to return the same package. Instead of having to try out their new clothing, French consumers can now immediately try them on in selected post offices.
After trying on clothing in the fitting room, consumers can also return their orders right away. They can print a free return label for packages that have been ordered at partner sellers.
Attracting more customers
“We want to make life easier for our customers. The experiment will save them time and effort”, the company said. The experiment is also a way for the company to encourage more consumers to use its services. Just like other postal companies, La Poste is processing fewer letters these days. It wants to compensate that by investing in its logistics services.

The first fitting rooms have now been installed in two of La Poste’s post offices in Paris. This year, the company wants to add three more, in Valenciennes, Saint-Etienne and Amiens. The so called ‘ecommerce module’ will eventually be tested in seven branch offices of the postal company.
Business association is not pleased
French association of entrepreneurs, Conseil du Commerce de France (CdCF), is not pleased with the experiment. The CdCF fears that the fitting rooms will make online shopping even more appealing to consumers.
The CdCF fears that fewer people will turn to brick-and-mortar stores because of the experiment.
This could result in fewer people coming to brick-and-mortar stores. If the postal company decides to roll out the experiment nationwide, that would be even more likely. So far, La Poste has not announced plans to expand the service that far.
